Definitely not, smartphones may not use them doesn't mean other devices like action and dash cams don't need them.

Don't know who or what gave TS the impression that sd cards are going to be phased out soon. Plenty of newly released smartphones still accept sd card, especially budget segment phones where price is the key factor and it makes no sense to not accept sd card only to charge $30-50 more for larger internal storage. Also don't underestimate how much other media devices like nintendo switch consoles, tablets or digital audio players help drive demand for sd cards.

Recent Samsung phones going without mSD expansion, a big mistake on Samsung's part imo. Still, many phones still have mSD expansion slots, in addition to many other devices that use mSD. So mSD cards aren't going the way of the Dodo anytime soon.

I have been facing this dilemma the past year. Samsung have removed the 3.5mm earphone jack and microSD slot from their flagship models. I have always purchased the Galaxy S series due to these 2 advantages over other brands with similar specifications, albeit at a high price.

And now since the 3.5mm and microSD are gone, all else being equal, I might just go for other cheaper brands instead. No point paying more to Samsung when they no longer have a hardware advantage over other brands.
