Can I use a standard android/blackberry charger for iphone 5 if I buy the apple lightning adapter and connect it to the charger?

Yes
U may get incompatibility message, but it can still charge

Not sure if it can sync

If you've the Original Apple lightning adapter, you'll not receive the incompatibility message.

I used android charger, quality 3rd party charger from Innergie and portable chargers with quality micro USB cables, along with the adapter, no issue.

Cheap chargers and usb cables I do not use, so I do not know.

If use with original lightning adapter there will be no incompatibility message. The usb cable you can use any.
