Miles Question

Miles experts, need your advise.

First time redeeming miles, currently have a total of 32k miles and ~1k are expiring today and few others expiring in a couple of months.

Just signed up for the Citi Premier Miles and should be getting the 30k miles soon.

Have a plan to go Japan next Apr but not sure will be enough to redeem or not.

Should I redeem an economy Bangkok return trip first for next year and change the dates when confirm? Any charges and if yes roughly how much?

Are these krisflyer miles?
If so...

For Japan, saver award is about 27k economy and 37.5k premium economy one way.
So u can actually book the economy saver today and after u get the 30k miles and after some spending, u can book the return trip.

Able to earn mile for 4tickets in one Krisflyer acct etc?

Each person has own acct and can only earn miles on their own acct.

Some other airlines allow people to pool the miles in family account such as Asiana.
Each person has own account as well but they can share the miles as needed.

Sq flights can credit the miles to Asiana.

So the 3-4 family members can credit the sq flight to their own asiana account and any one person in the family can use those miles.

Asiana miles can be used on Asiana and any Star alliance partners inc SQ and some non Star alliance airlines as well if seats are available.
Lasts for 10 years.

Sq miles only last for 3 years.

How u want to credit the miles is up to u.
Hard for me to tell u.

In sg, have many credit cards that can add to sq miles so makes it easier to accumulate sq miles.

If family members dont fly often, their sq miles might expire before enough miles get accumulated.
Can spend those miles in online shops but quite a waste.
