Cashback>miles

Because the best high-interest savings account (SCB, BOC, UOB) don't have 4mpd cards.

The amount of interest you can earn from the savings accounts by clocking only $500 spend on the cashback card will far outweigh the benefits of $500 spend on a 4mpd card that is not linked to a savings account.

Possibly the best combination for account+4mpd card is ocbc360+titanium. But i would not put my money there if i can put them into boc or scb.

I have friends who swear by cashback even if it's 3% simply because they don't value flying premium classes. To them flying is point A to B, the cheapest fare suffices.

For me, it's miles from day 1. I value the scarcity, exclusiveness and experience of premium classes. My 1st premium class redemption was for SQ Suites long haul, and the entire experience totally blown me and my wife away.

Imagine having to use 2xxk KF miles for the flight which could have cost $20k+, I think it makes perfect sense to utilize high mpd and bonus CC miles.

Thumbs up. Miles is more easily attainable. Decent cashback comes with criteria that i don't want to restrict myself with eg minimum spending amount and capping of cashback amount.

Cashback people and miles people are two totally breeds.

Cashback people monitor their purchases stringently, hitting that min spend requirement on each card every month. Miles people spend as they wish (especially when Fevo still worked). Now maybe cannot liao.

Cashbackers rather cancel the card than pay annual fee. Milers gladly pay the annual fee cos they can get alot of miles this way.

Cashbackers value every penny, saving up for that retirement nest. Milers treasure value for money, once in a lifetime types of experiences.

Redeeming points for krisflyer from Scb is a nightmare.

Spend 1.5 months to redeem it with my VI.

1) points keeps bouncing back after 4-5 days and unable to redeem. Had to try 4 times and calling CSO

2)CSO tells me I can't pool points from my 3 cards and only my vi has a redmpetion rate of 2500 for 1000. Says I need yo be charged 25 each card for total of 75 bucks ???

3) finally when it was redeemed, I was shortchanged of nearly half of it. Called in to complain and the other half returned BUT....

4) now they charge me an additional redemption fee for the other half they shortchanged and returned me.

Wtf.

Finally after banging table they waive off ALL redemption fees... That's the least they can do given I wasted so much time !!!

Really sounds like a freaking nightmare.

Also one good reason why Most of my spending goes to UOB and DBS cards these days. All the points/uni$ goes into one account.

At least now I can have multiple cards for different spending and pay one time fee for redemption.

How much would you have spent to reach 2xxKF miles?

About S$50k.. I charge my business expenses to high mpd cards as well so easy to hit. Most of my spendings are 4mpd, but when opportunities arise, I utilize bonus signup to get even more miles >8mpd.

Yes, I also have friends who only fly the cheapest fares, so they only redeem for economy, claiming to want to fly to more places instead of premium classes. Now that there is no more fuel surcharge in SQ redemption, economy makes better sense (than before).

Not sure if I'm able to try suites ever (now that the kids need tickets), but we tried the old 1st class the the service was fantastic.

Enjoy while you can travel without kids. Now that I travel with kids, I spent about 600k miles flying 4 pax to/from US in J. Have also flown with them in Y before, really, J is much easier as they have their own bed, rather than requiring to carry them to sleep.

You're lucky to get to spend on business expenses. I'd say most here do not have that luxury. My miles also mostly coming from business expenses, but not very constant source and not many qualify for 4mpd (was very good for 4mpd when Samsung Pay citibank promo was active).

very very correct. Especially for Savers.
As airlines keeps pushing out promotions to compete with budget airlines

True when you compare economy class. But even when airlines push out business class promotions, I don't think the average joe will buy.. That's when miles makes much more sense.
