This is Ken Chee's program.

They follow Warren Buffett strategy, which is basically value investing.

I didn't attended his program because I already know Warren Buffett Strategy long time ago.

There are lots of articles, videos and books on Warren's strategy online and offline, some are free and some are not.

Ken's program is more for beginners, who wants information spoon feed to them.

I said spoon feed because Warren's formula is not a secret, you can find them, but need some time to search and compile.

Please note that although, I know Warren Buffett's strategy, but I'm not a value investor. I'm a dividend investor.

how to be dividend investor?what are the risks?can maintain portfolio value without too much fluctuations?why dividend investing?i thought they say dividend companies tend to underperform the benchmark index.

1. how to be dividend investor?
Buy strong fundamental counters that gives constant above average dividend.

2. what are the risks?
Risks include poor management, poor performance and industry wide related risks.

3. can maintain portfolio value without too much fluctuations?
Yes.

4. why dividend investing?
To have consistent long-term income.

5. i thought they say dividend companies tend to underperform the benchmark index.
The objective of dividend investing is not to outperform the benchmark index, but to give consistent income. By getting consistent income, you are forgoing the growth.

If you want to outperform the benchmark, you should look at value investing and not dividend investing.

Just thinking out loud. I have not attended any of such courses lately except for some basics in treasury products long time ago. So perhaps, those who went could help fill in the pieces I may be missing:

Today, if these courses are really that good, why would trainers even want to share their trade secret, if there really is one. As far as I know, in a trading world, it is every man for his own. They can easily be rich themselves by trading full time. Probably there could be few who believe in "giving back to the society" but I guess not for majority of the trainers.

In the past, product and trading knowledge are "locked" with traders that work in institutions. These traders often go to lecturing when they retired to share their knowledge. Also, you can't find books easily and also cheaply that can educate you on this. Even if you have access to such knowledge, you do not have the convenience to trade. You have to go through brokers and the cost to trade through them is high and you are at their mercy. (I remember during the stock market frenzy in 90s, my broker told me flatly to look for another broker as he is too busy with the bigger clients, I suppose). So I can understand the benefits of such courses/seminars to acquire knowlege, then.

However, today everything is available on-line - knowledge is freely available. Any conceivable question on how to make/not to make $ through investing that can be answered is already available online - just have to diligently search for them.

Today, you can even become a trader yourself as everything is almost available on-line at very low start-up cost. Spreads (e.g. for FX and ETFs) also have come down to very low levels where the advantage traditional traders have over retail investors have reduced.

You have to know that only 5% of the people in the market actually makes money. The 95% don't.

However, 75% thinks they knows TA or FA or both and they think they have the formula, but they don't have the result to show it, so some of them teach as a way to get their income.

It's not trade secrets that they are sharing, they are just sharing what little knowledge they have on the market.

If you are the 5%, you are unlikely to teach. Because you'll know how precious your trade secret is and not sell it away for a mare $3k.

I'll only teach my trade secrets to my children because to me it's my heirloom.

Would you sell your heirloom away for $3k?

I agreed..

for Value Investing, there is no secret.
There's too much information written about it that anyone can read about and understand .
Going to course is just an expensive way of learning the stuff.

For the real secret sauce. .like people who really earned using TA+FA+tHAT Secret Sauce, they will never reveal that secret sauce... unless the secret sauce have stopped working...

Actually hor.. is there really a secret sauce? ..lol... I think it all boils down to the individual person's ability and this cannot be taught.

How? did you attended in the end? How was it?
I attended one of their seminars. I was puzzled by one stuff. But was rushing to somewhere so did not stay back to prode further. They flash some of the students having passive income and their DIVIDEND yield is 19-20++%, how many stocks in sg offered that high dividend? or they keep changing the stock in a year to achieve that dividend?
it's possible if the yield is based of cost of purchase. For eg. i held on to my 1 lot of suntec i got from IPO. Now the yield based on my S$1 IPO price is about 9%. But others who buy suntec now will have a lower yield.

You summed it up nicely in 1 sentence.

The basic building blocks/ideas for a sound trading/investment plan are all out there - the products, the product info, the market data, commentaries, trading strategies, "do's-and-dont's", trading platforms, etc. You need to trawl the net to read and understand, mix-and-match the blocks/ideas and form your own strategy that you think can beat the market, and be discipline enough to execute it as planned. And yes, you be prepared to lose some money along the way making mistakes like every newbies.

True.. in that case, power to the training courses!
Now we just need to find those who have gained from the courses to testify here.. lol
and not to forget .. those who lost money from the courses one.. come share!

i went to 1 preview, the teacher showed his student's trading record with photocopy live transaction from the broker as evidence of his class's success.

Most of them are making at least 5% for a period of 3 months

but never sign up because its a class for newbiees :o

You cannot see 3 months result to determine effectiveness because data is not enough to reflect the full picture.

In a bullish year, any Tom, Dick or Harry can makes money buying anything.

Like last year for example, before Oct crash almost everyone who brought stocks made money. However, after Oct is a different story.

You need at least 5 years data with some challenging years to know how good the strategy is.

Time = money
They (ken and gang) are targeting people who know nuts or at most very little about investing.

They are prescribing like what others have said Warren buffet style of investment - value investing.

If you already know quite a fair bit about investment then I would say this is not for you.

If you have very little knowledge, or have been losing money doing trading - then this may be the course for you

The gist of the course is on how to manage your money, generating cash flow and how to research/spot companies. Sounds simple but something many people neglect.
