I'm wondering what's the difference between Skylark vs Intel and AMD processors? I'm currently looking at Intel i5 4460... what does the "4460" represent? Does it provide higher performance as the number increases?

IIRC

the i5-"x" indicates the generation.

2xxx = Sandy Bridge (2nd gen)
3xxx = Ivy Bridge (3rd)
4xxx = Haswell (4th)
5xxx = Broadwell (5th)
6xxx = Skylake (6th - latest in the market)

well, based on intel - usually it means higher performance, better or something enhanced in it.
If its based on benchmark, subjective.

Thanks guys! Really appreciate all the comments so far.

Here's what I have gathered. I'll need help specifically on picking the GPU and Motherboard +CPU combi... keeping in mind that I'll be able to fit it in my casing.

A rough calculation of my current estimate without GPU and Mobo+CPU is roughly $400-450... so that leaves me $600 for GPU and Mobo+CPU.

I'm happy to shift things around, like decreasing the SSD storage, etc so meet my requirements. There's just too many choices, and I'm not too sure what brands/specs will be the best bang for my buck.
