Hi all, appreciate if I could get some help in building a SFF/small/compact mini-itx rig. I will be building it in Singapore and bringing it overseas.

Requirements for the rig:-
1) mainly use for excel, payroll software, inventory system software etc
2) no need for GPU
3) 256GB SSD
4) wifi and usb 3.0 ports on the motherboard
5) 8gig ram overkill?
6) no need for optical drive, may get a external optical drive since I would want this rig to be as small and compact as possible.
7) dust filters as my work place is very very dusty unfortunately.
8) recommendation for good wireless mouse and keyboard combo
I
Lastly, I appreciate if I could also get some recommendation for a UPS for the rig and a 24inch dell monitor as I have power outages almost daily here.

Thanks in advance!

Ready made solution that is a lot more powerful than an Atom based system:

No need for dust filters as it is COMPLETELY PASSIVE!! :D

You can just take it out of the box, pack it in your backpack and go through customs with it. Don't even need to pack it as a box and send as bulk baggage. (Can escape the baggage limit hehe)

Dunno where you going also but here's something to consider...

CPU+MB: Intel Core i3-4160 + Gigabyte GA-H97N-WIFI @ $309
RAM: Crucial DDR3-1600 CL11 8GB @ $67
SSD: Transcend SSD370 256GB @ $128 (Video-Pro)
CASE+PSU: Antec ISK110 VESA + Delta 90W External Power Adapter [Efficiency V] @ $128 (t258jgn)
3.68 litres only.
Be sure to buy your own air filter.

OS: Microsoft Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit [OEM] @ $33 (G2A)
DSP: QNIX QX2710 Evolution II SE 27" LED [AH-IPS] @ $269 (Qoo10)
What you require is screen real estate and its 1440p resolution just serves that well.
No warranty though. But since you are bringing it overseas, it doesn't matter.

PHP: Logitech MK520r @ $85 (Fuwell)

Total: $1019

Buy others from Tradepac, #05-18.

See how it will lag in excel...
Will lag less than an Atom. Just chuck and lug along. Don't have to worry about things bouncing around and coming off in transit. I've moved a full sized liquid cooled desktop through customs before. Very scary.

Aiya unless, it's a ridiculous spreadsheet for calculating the optimal configuration of a 2 stage superheated turbine using the rankine cycle, it'll be fine.

the ready made ones are ideal as diy will be hard to make it smaller.

if u really wana build, wats yr preferred chassis form factor? tower, cube? tower will tend to save more desk space.

Thanks for the recommendation~

I am currently working at Papua New Guinea(if anyone know where it is:s13:) for those who wanted to know. A very very dusty place and also very frequent power outages.

Since the Antec ISK110 VESA case comes with a external power adapter, could I use it with a Uninterruptible Power Supply(UPS)?

I would prefer a system that is very responsive, would a change from I3 - I5 processor make a noticeable difference?

Lastly, any recommendation for a UPS?

Thanks!

Most diy PC chassis has too many holes or perforations for better ventilation and not suitable for dusty environment. Dust will likely collects over ventilation holes and fan blades and required cleaning from time to time.

Laptops or the minix z64 Windows or the zotac mini PC maybe better as the enclosed design will minimize dust collection.

Kaos, when you hit someone on the road, remember not to stop!

And yes, you can use adapters with a UPS.
