Hi guys

need some comments.

I have 4x 4gb ddr3 g.skill that works with my i7-2600k setup.
Re-using my superflower PSU, SSD, HDD, MSI 550GTX-Ti

Should I get the 6th gen i5 with ddr4, or get the reuse the ddr3 with Asus H170i-Plus D3?

Also, any casing to recommend?

imho.
go get 4th Generation better.
not much performance gain from 4th Gen to 6th Gen.
also I feel that 6th Gen Mobo are currently overpriced in sls and very limited selection.

Recommend you CM Elite 130 M-ITX Casing.
Since you squeezing GPU inside.

This Casing long enough to provide decent cooling.

hmm.. i saw these prices
Asus H81i-Plus + i5-4460 @ $362 vs
Asus H170i-Plus D3 + i5 6400 @ $474 vs
MSI H110i-PRO-AC + i5 6400 @ $398

Both Asus supports ddr3, but i'm limited to recycle 2 dimms only at 8GB

yeah the selection quite limited... any idea why 5th gen chips not available?
what features do u look out for in ITX boards?

my 5 yr old board was MSI-P67A-C45. thought was mobo fault, changed to a new ASRock H77Pro4/MVP - n this one just sent for RMA. technician said maybe my i7 also spoil..

intend to reuse as much as possible. but ITX only 2 dimm right?

i see, well i rather u sell away ur ddr3 ram and get new 6th gen with ddr4 if really its ur i7 is faulty.

yes ITX only 2 dimm. but if u really need higher ram den just get 2X16GB (if really bo bian)

My suggestion is to sell the DDR3 rams and get a new Skylake rig. ITX mobo only supports 2x ram, you will not be able to use all 4 sticks of your existing ram.

Performance wise, I don't see significant improvements with Skylake vs Haswell, just improved power efficiency and iGPU.

All depends what you are going to use your m-itx pc for.
Moi ended up buying a mini pc instead of building an m-itx pc cheaper more power saving and won't be using it for gaming.

If you are on a budget, get at least a b150 chipset mb like
-Asus B150i PRO GAMING AURA
-MSI B150i GAMING PRO AC
-Gigabyte H170N-Wifi
-Asrock H170-Itx/AC

Why do you want to download from a i7 2600K to a i5 4460?

For the first time i am hearing a specific chipset can corrode its entire motherboard lineup. :s22:

Corrosion maybe due to environment humidity rather than questionable motherboard I/O panel alloy mix. :s22:
