When I was researching I was surprised Altec Lansing is more or less dead. When I was younger they were the BOMB for computer speakers.

Any good choices for 2.0 speakers?

Altec Lansing is still around but now they only sell portable speaker.
Yes have look around in stores like Challenger and SLS there
is Altec portable speaker.

However they do not manufacture PC speaker anymore.
Budget?
Usually for 2.0 speaker, some will opt for Edifier or
studio monitor speaker

Take note 2.0 speaker is more suited at music than games/movies.
Without the .1 the low frequency like rumble and etc.
you won't hear and feel it.

Don't know I'm ok to revive this thread , but was looking around reviews for the Logitech z625/z623 speaker reviews as I'm looking for new speakers .

I now currently have Altec Lansing Vs4621/Octane 7 and have been using it quite some time liao . Sound is nice and all but after so many years of usage, it's starting to have static sounds , and for some reason , turning on/off my fans or light switches sometimes reduces the speakers output to of only one side. And the volume control knobs can't be touched as when touched it gets static and it either becomes super soft or switches to only one side. Then I have to keep touching it in hopes it will output both sides.

TLDR: It works but has quite a few issues i'm sick of dealing with.

My desktop is in the living room and have quite a few people living with me , My current setup has the bass reduced to half , as my parents complained that the bass is very loud even in their rooms ( I personally can't feel it but when im in the room , I do hear the bass thumping even when on low volume)

I was about to purchase the Z625 until I read your review of the bass being overwhelming . I'm more of on the music side . I do play games and movies but it doesn't really matter that much . I'm just looking for an upgrade/replacement.

Saw some recommending Edifier or audioengine . But AA is way too expensive and Edifier.. i personally never heard of it . Was considering bookshelf speakers but have never used them . Have only used 2.1 systems so am wondering if bookshelf speakers are able to produce the same as 2.1 systems.

Hope you guys can advice me thanks!

Sorry for the lengthy reply.

Z623/Z625 bass is very loud but you can adjust it.
Alternate 2.1 speaker will be either Klipsch or Aego M but
these are around $300 - $400 range so much pricey than
the Z625.

I see. understand. Asked some of my friends and they told me the current Altec Optane 7 that I have is actually good enough or even better . What are you considering to get?

Frankly really up to your ears to decide.
PC 2.1 speaker are limited so not much choices to choose.

I think my Labtec 424 may have finally spoilt.
Left speaker no sound anymore.

Looking at this z625 speaker.

Does it sound similar to the Creative Katana soundbar?
My music sounds dead on the Katana soundbar, so bothered by it that I gave it to my dad.

Vastly different, I have tested the Katana before.
Katana issue is the driver is very small not to mention
it is tuned more towards gaming so music performance
is weak.

z625 the mid is good but mindful of the powerful bass.

Sorry I thought I responded to this, must have not hit submit. Budget is below 500. I was reading that as long as the woofer is 5.0 inch the bass is decent. Will I really miss a sub?

Depend on your usage, if music without a sub is fine.
But for games/movies best to have a sub as most bookshelf speaker
won't be able to reproduce low frequencies like rumble that
well.

So I got myself a set of z625.

On first listen it felt like a layer of voice, a layer of bass and in the middle a squashed layer of the guitar and instruments.
The old Labtec sounds more layered than the z625.
Maybe I'm still biased towards my old Labtec.

At least its better than the Creative Katana.

Ya, the satellites of z625 are huge!

Now want to register warranty.

The box didn't indicate its from Ban Leong or Kaira.
So I bought some parallel import set?
Bought from Harvey Norman.

Bought from Harvey Norman.

No need to register, HN is local set.
Usually stock are Ban leong, in doubt can confirm with them as some
Their stock is Kaira.

For better sound, if you are not using soundcard can invest in one.

Using with Xonar DX soundcard.
Going to switch to optical input once the TOSLINK to 3.5mm adaptor arrives.

Just hope this z625 will last as long as my Labtec Pulse 424.

Thinking again, if I use optical for the speakers doesn't it mean that the digital to analog conversion is left to the speakers instead of the soundcard or onboard?

Difference between Optical and RCA isn't very noticeable for Z625.
But if you are using soundcard that have RCA and you connect
RCA to RCA to it the sound can be much better than
other connection.

Really up to what soundcard you use, you can play around with the cable.
I was using Creative X-fi Digital Music Premium to drive the speaker
so it might be different than the Asus Xonar.

I was thinking is the DAC in the z625 inferior to that of a soundcard that in the end its still best to leave the digital-analog conversion to the soundcard and not use optical for the speaker?

Or I thinking too much.
Then might as well buy z623, lol.

Put it this way, optical and 3.5mm connection no difference in sound.
Optical connection is handy if you want to use Z625 with TV or game console.
Else solely for PC use Z623 will do, save you some money.

Actually PC speakers choices are very limited.
$26X - Logitech Z625
$399 - Klispch promedia BT not the old version
$450 - Aego M

Other than that I have to test speakers like Swan
which one thread constantly there are people talking about.
Creative speakers I won't recommend, SQ is there but
their products usually are not build to last.

Some Katana users their speaker are starting to fail within a
year....
FYI I brought the Logitech Z625 during past IT show at $16X
really a steal at such a price.

I only share about 2.1 speakers, 2.0 speaker wise will be
another time.
Cheers.

I am using a Creative Gigaworks T3 for many years now, apart from their volume knob quality, I think it might be the best speakers which I have used.

Their Creative's Inspire series was their most horrible series I have tried. They don't last.
To me, Logitech speakers tend to be too heavy on bass.
