Mirrorless Camera recommendation

Hi All,

Next month will be going to Finland and i believe it is winter time at sub zero degrees. I considering getting Canon R but the lenses is as bulky as DSLR. I need a mirrorless camera with small lens so i can travel light and yet this cam can be withstand winter temperature like minus 10 or more degrees.

Guys any recommendations?

What lenses you looking at? Any f2.8 or faster lens will still be heavy, mirror less or dSLR. For lowest weight, probably APSC or 4/3. But quality will not be comparable to FF like EOS R

I got Olympus EM5 mark 1 and canon 5d mark 3 and 4

Since you already have Olympus, maybe can stick to it or other M4/3 format

Your Oly EM5 specifications states "0 to 40 degrees Celsius (at operation), -20 to 60 degrees Celsius (at storage) "

Do you expect temperatures lower than that ?

EM5 mark 3 can handle lower... " -10℃ to +40℃ (when in operation) / -20℃ - +60℃ (when stored) "

Totally agree. Most people in this forum seem to be prefer Sony mirrorless cameras. I brought my xt3 to Nepal recently, -20 degrees for many days in the mountains, no issue at all. I think Finland’s weather should be about the same in peak winter season.

just get those heat pack warmers to keep your camera warm....

unless if you're gonna be shooting long timelapses and long exposures of the sky ,maybe you should get something more extreme weatherproof.

my old 5d and 5d2 could weather -35'c in laplands no issues even though the minimum stated working temp was 0 deg c.

probably more issues with the battery holding charges in cold weather and the bit of condensation of glass elements indoor/outdoors

With the exception of high-end DSLRs, mirrorless cameras have an edge. The lack of a mirror makes it easier to take image after image. The simpler mechanics of mirrorless cameras allow them to shoot more photos per second, at higher shutter speeds. So not bad leh.
