Missing message icon

Using a iPhone XS Max, trying to sent photo thru message. Can’t find message icon. Pls help

Pull down for the search bar and type message?

When you go to your photo gallery, upon selecting a photo, at the lower left corner, there is a square box with a pointing up arrow. Upon touching that icon, can’t find message icon.
