Mobile WiFi (MiFi)

Has anyone travelled extensively with a MiFi before?
Mind advising which one you bought/rented and would you get it again?

Preparing to embark on a 6-months trip across China, Europe and America soon and wondering if MiFi will be better for me than buying individual SIMs.

Mifi still need to insert sim cards, no? But good for hotspotting.

My friends one is huawei.

1) Mifi router - rent is expensive
- good for group sharing
- still need to buy sim card

2) Sim card - cheaper and good for 1 pax
3) China block all facebook, google, youtube, whatsapp and many more.

Usually use mifi. 4G TP Link. That way I can keep SG sim in my phone, disable data to prevent accidental roam charges and still can receive SMS or incoming calls. Also mifi can be shared and can have better control over data usage using router app, unlike personal hotspot.

Downside, sometimes difficult to activate and setup APN, but so far always got it to work.

Oh, I didn't realize I'd still need a SIM Card for MiFis.
Think I got my answer. Hah.
