Hey guys!

Currently upgrading my PC, have Asus GTX 970 waiting to be fixed up. Also considering either a Seasonic or Superflower PSU to power the Pc.

Thinking of the ASROCK Z97 KILLER + i5 4690, is it worth going for the Z97X instead?

Budget $500

Will be playing some games like D3 , GW2, WoW etc and doing quite abit of work on Photoshop, Illustrator and a small amount of video editing.

Z97 no sli, Z97X offers SLI. I think as read from the specs. so if you want sli in the future, can get Z97X. Not sure whether the sli capabilities is limited to board or lack of sli bridge

Why don't consider i7 for video editing?

For SLI to be possible on a mobo, Nvidia specifies that the mobo must have 2X PCI-E X16 slots that are capable of PCI-E X8 speeds on both PCI-E X16 slots and any mobo without 2X PCI-E X16 slots capable of at least X8 speeds are not capable of SLI.

AMD Crossfire is much more flexible in that Crossfire is possible on any mobo with any PCI-E X16 slots, even if the slots are only limited to X8 and X4 speeds on the mobo, just that performance will not be as good as a Crossfire setup on 2X PCI-E X16 slots running at X8 speeds.

This also means that only the more expensive Z87/97 and 990FX mobos can support SLI while most mobos with 2X PCI-E X16 slots can support Crossfire.

Also, TS never say that he want SLI/Crossfire, so not really relevant to him anyway.

It's due to how the pci ex slot is electrically connected.

If no oc and single gpu, even b85 can do it.
