Hello, I am looking to upgrade my processor.

My current mobo is asus sabretooth 55i, and the casing is mid tower i think. I am currently looking at the new asus sabretooth z97 mk2 with i7-4790k. Does anyone have any better suggestions for the mobo in terms of price/performance?

Also would liquid cooling be necessary? I am looking at corsair h100i. I am not sure if my current cpu cooler would be compatible, and under load, its very noisy. current cpu is i7 860 @2.8 ghz.

Thank you for taking the time to read and reply.

You keen on overclocking? On gaming performance wise, overclocking doesn't yield much benefit in terms of price to performance.

Lets give you some example
Build 1: Sabretooth z97 mk2, i7-4790k overclocked, AIO water cooling, gtx 970
Build 2: B85 mobo, i5 4460, stock cooler, gtx 970

Build 1 cost $500 more than build 2 and build 1 only outperform build 2 by less than 5% in gaming performance.

See the difference? No matter how expensive your cpu is, it doesn't yield much benefit in gaming performance.

Water cooling or air cooling is up to you but 3rd party cooling is necessary for overclocking. Check the product's specification for CPU cooler compatibility with the board you are using.
