hi guys, i'm pretty surprised that no one so far mentioned using Mint.com as a personal finance software. it is free and beats creating a template from scratch in MS Excel.

cheers!

If use maxonline express, digital voice is free.
The amount of electricity consumed during standby mode already is higher than yr actual call since it is 24hrs always on! 365 days a year!

You can turn it off if you don't use it, such as at night. Or divert it to your mobile (think the divert plus vas is still free) and don't turn it on. Turn it on only when you want to make out going call.

For electricity bills, air-conditioning is a real killer. Using the fan more really saves LOTS because the consumption of a fan running overnight vs air-con makes a huge difference.

Aircon is 2000W while fan is 40W, so about 50 times more! In an experiment I did wwhich is switching off thee air-con mains outside the ledge save me some 10kWH per month or 2 dollar!

For me, I'd rather target to cut down on big-ticket spending than cut a little here and there. I don't mind paying a little more for the comfort of using aircon or buying a cup of good coffee everyday, but would not spend on owning a car or taking taxis. Cutting down on holidays or going for short trips rather than faraway places help a lot too.

Yr cost-cutting measures is too obvious to be mentioned here! Kinda no brainer in a way! We looking at the not so obvious! What u are saying is basically government is wasting time, money and resources to even tell us reduce or eliminate use of air-con, storage water heater, clothes dryer, etc, devices on standby mode, etc

That will take care of standby mode electricity consumption! Dont allow an appliance to be on standby mode can save alot! A microwave oven timer on for 24hrs consumed more electricity compared to the 1min usage a day to warm food! I only have 2 device on standby mode - HDD recorder (timer display off mode) and fridge (4 ticks)! I am now using a smartphone surfing the net instead of pc! Sometimes notebook!

My electricity, gas and water is 40 a month! Assume normally people in a 5 room spend 250 a month! I ought to have saved 2520! Not sure whether this is a big killers! This is probably enough for me to go banyan tree resort every year! Better still, buy a xbox, ps3, mini notebook, latest handphone!

As the chinese sayings goes: It is accumulation of small stuff becoming big stuff! Do not lose sight of this is my point! Focus on CEO pay cut alone is not enough! It gotta be across the board with varying percentage of cuts! Dont do the extreme of cutting 900 though, unless u have been operating very inefficiently!

bro, your viewpoint may or may not be valid. but why dun u express your views in a more humble way? actually there's no absolute right or wrong in this world. we're all sharing info here, so let's not get too sarcastic?

It is not able valid or not, it is about doable! One must sacrifice some moment of unnecssary luxury for a lifetime of independent necessity!
