[Monitor] 1440p 27"

Hi guys, considering upgrading my monitor to 1440p 27"

Main consideration is more screen real estate for my programming work. I was considering a dual-screen set up (i.e. buy another 23" or 24" to complement my current one), but the issue is that my table doesn't have that much space to accommodate 2 screens.

I have short listed the following screens: Budget is about $700

Dell U2715H (IPS) ~ $700
Dell U2717D (PLS) ~ $725
[25" alternative] Dell U2515H (IPS) ~ $525

I have read through reviews and also videos .etc, but they don't seem to be conclusive. So I am seeking some of your advice and experience, maybe some of you have experience with these screens.

1) I don't know if PLS has much difference from IPS or not? Anyone with such screens can comment?

2) I am also considering the QNIX 27" because of the price. But are they reliable? i.e. last 5 years and ease of warranty claim

3) How about the Dell 25"? Is it too small for 1440p? With this I might be able to squeeze in 2 monitors and spend a bit less...

4) Maybe I should just spend more and get a 4K screen? About $800?

1) Both have their own pros and cons. Overall performance wise pretty much the same.

2) No warranty. Mine currently last for about 2+ years and still going fine.

3) IMO 27" is the min for 1440p. If not your effective screen estate is pretty much no difference from a 1080p.

4) 4K? you would want at least a 39" screen if you want to have more screen estate.

Can consider Crossover 27 fast 144. Worth every penny

Remember that you are comparing 2 different things. Qnix, Crossover & other korean brands panel (except the big 2 Samsung and LG) uses A- panel. In other words they use rejected panels.

Mostly with a chance of dead pixels. Warranty wise you got to ship back the monitor to korea. Costly.

Not forgeting that most of this korean monitors do not have inbuild scaler. Which means that if you were to use it to connect a ps4 or any other media player that output 1080p, these monitors might not display anything. Also note that the dvi cables used are pretty sensitive imho.

Nevertheless the good thing i can think of, it is cheap and can go higher refreshing rate. But please reconsider your option for a proper warranty support monitor.

Dell, Samsung, LG or any other brands that sold in SG do have on site warranty. If there is something wrong with the display, they can deal it for you at your place.

Thanks for all the comments! Yeah, I guess there's some premium to pay for the peace of mind and also on-site warranty. So far has been using Dell monitor, very good support even when monitor died for no reason.

Thanks for the useful input... Ok so I guess 25" 1440p is out.. Since I'm guessing have to use UI scaling for what which somewhat defeats the purpose of the higher resolution for higher screen estate.

Also, from your profile, I see you are using VA panel. How do they perform in terms of colour and ghosting? I have a VA panel BenQ 24" in my office, it kinds of have ghosting even for normal web-browsing when scrolling.

So far there is no ghosting on my panel during gaming.

Color wise it wont be as great as IPS. VA panels are somewhere in the middle of IPS and TN panel. Less backlit bleeding. Kinda deep blacks, watching movies really awesome.

Everyone usage different mah. Not many people have table space to accommodate 2 x 25" monitors. So in that aspect, a single 27" 1440P may make better sense but to each his own ^^

Head down to SLS and take a look.

You could gauge by the size that you probably think that you are comfortable with.

For me i dont buy the idea of 2 monitors on one desk as i have limited space for it. So i rather have a single huge monitor. Hence a 32inch 1440p monitor.

But im still waiting for a newer 4k monitor with Gsync at 32inch. Only Acer has it and Acer SG did not bother with this model. So i guess im still waiting for it.

left is qnix 24inch 2560 x1440 i bought for 229 with shipping after cart discount @ qoo10 2month ago........mine came with zero dead pixel..depend on luck i guess...right side is benq 144hz..

Wow your table size compared to the 2 x 24" monitors...

Anyway thanks for sharing your experience with the QNIX and Crossovers. Like many other bros have mentioned here, I think depends on luck (in terms of dead pixel, performance and warranty)... Probably will go with one of the bigger names instead.
