Monitor issues

My LCD monitor have been connected to my desktop all these while. Over the past few months, every now and then when I boot up my desktop. my monitor screen will be blank with this message 'analog power saving mode'. I usually need to plug in and out my vga cable more than 30mins before the screen will have anything.

This problem happened again yesterday. Out of desperation, I used my laptop and connect the monitor to it and surprisingly it works. Does this mean my VGA card is spoilt?

Over the past 24 hours while trying to connect the monitor to my desktop. sometimes the screen will come back. However, the screen doesnt seem to be optimally clear. All along, I have been connecting my VGA cable via this white thing(see pic below) to a port in my desktop. If I connect via the normal VGA port, the image would not be that clear.

The white you refer to in the picture is DVI cable which carry digital signal from your desktop to the monitor. This is much clearer compared to the analog cable (blue) which your vga card convert the signal to analog before sending to monitor. The monitor in turn convert back the analog signal to digital. With each conversion, quality of image drops.

I think your vga card is going up lorry.

oh so its most likely VGA card problem right? Anyway when I connect via the DVI cable to a port on my desktop, also cannot display anything. That dvi cable port on my desktop also belongs to the vga card? Its a blue port like vga port except longer and with more holes.
