Hi all,

My office monitor recently uplorried cos old liao. I mainly use it for spreadsheet work and coding, so I need to get a new monitor setup.

I want to ask the laojiaos and monitor experts here with the following questions:
  1. Dual 27-inch monitors vs a single 34-inch ultrawide — which setup is better?
  2. QHD vs 4K resolution — how noticeable is the difference in text clarity and eye comfort, for long hours of usage?
  3. Brand comparison: Acer vs Lenovo ThinkVision vs Dell UltraSharp. Why the common sentiments here are leaning towards ultrasharps ah?
Thanks!

1. if you office use, ips easily. if you multi task a lot for work in office then dual 27inch

2. any res is fine for me. QHD or 4k. ips text clarity and eye comfort very good liao, can long hr

3. prefer Dell UltraSharp.

hi The_king

Thanks for replying to my post. Got the following questions

1) Look like i getting 2 27inch. Straight line is straight compared to curved monitors which is good

2) qhd is a sweet spot for 27inch. 4k at 27inch is a good to have i suppose?

3.1) Why are u leaning towards Ultrasharp?

3.2) I saw the ultrasharp lineup is ips black compared to the competition. Is the difference compared to normal ips big?

3.2) I also realised ultrasharp no installed speaker one but thinkvision have, what speakers u use for external output ah or just bluetooth earbuds?

Thanks!

1 - i dont use curved screen before so i cant advise on that

2- i think for office use only, the screen real estate matter most . if you can see small text easily then 4k no problem cause sharper , clearer but (me got old flower eye so i prefer bigger for easier to read)

3.1- some US use ips black panel and US series usually have better panels. Also US and Pro series use waranty policy is better (dead pixel) but i hear someone say dell nowadays if monitor got issues they replace with a used set

3.1 - US and pro series have the same warranty but US tend to have better calibration

3.2 - yes the black is better but no where near oled

3.3 - i use a 6.5inch bookshelf speaker so monitor speaker dont matter to me but prefer without speaker for lesser point of failure

If it's of any interest, I have the following two Dell 27 Inch 2k monitors. My use is mainly spreadsheets and some browsing.

1. Dell S2721DS: Has two onboard speakers and AMD Freesync (if it matters). This is daisy-chained to:
2. Dell P2723DE: Has DP MST

I use with two laptops, one has DP output and the other has USB-C DP Alt mode.

I use the joystick controller on the P2723DE to switch between the two monitors.

BTW, if your company is under dell Corporate Employee Purchase Program , can try to apply to get this dell coupon for more discount

https://www.dell.com/en-sg/lp/dell-employee-purchase-program

it a coupon code (so anyone under epp, apply will have the code) - so can just apply before paying at the cart
I checked the website and realised that it is for dell employees only?

Got loophole to get the discount despite not being dell employee?
