Monitor suddenly goes black screen

My monitor will suddenly go into black screen with HDMI power save. There is is still power to the computer with fans and CPU fan still running. This can happen after 5 mins, 15 min or more than 1 hour of use. Started about 1 week ago and all was okay after that with daily use for 8 days and then suddenly tongiht again go black screen a few times since 10 pm. Have to power off the whole PC and then wait a while before powering on again and all boots up normally.

I have checked the connection of the HDMI cables, updated the graphics cards driver and this can happen when I am just doing typng word document, browsing and not playing any games. My a 2nd hand GPU is AMD 6600 XT which I got in Dec 2022. Any suggestions on what could be the fault? Is the GPU dying?

Can be alot of thing such as power supply not stable already and cannot provide enough power to your other part.

One of my old pc also have similar problem, end up is cpu fan spoil, after using a while it will overheat and auto shut off

Could be your power supply failing, but can also be other things like ram failing also. Try to test with one stick of ram first and see if it helps

My PSU is a FSP HV PRO 85+ 550W and motherboard gigabythe B550 DS3HAC were only installed in Feb 2024 as the previous PSU and motherboard had some issues. other parts are Crucial Ballistix 3200 MHz DDR4 DRAM 16GB, NVME 1TB was bought and installed in Dec 2020. All of it was DIY.

For tonight, twice it went blank screen after only 2 mins. Now it has been okay for the last 30 mins .

If bring down to a repair centre, if they cannot be able replicate the problem, will they be able to pin poin the problem ? Open to any advice. Thanks

Does your CPU support onboard output, if yes, try to run your system without your gpu and see if the same thing occur for a week. if problem goes away them is your gpu.

Your PSU should still have warrenty, can take and check with distro also if you have the time

also, you can try to download those gpu, cpu and psu stress test software and see if your problem will be replicable under full load.

black screen? does it auto reboot?

if its ur gpu im sure ur driver crash, u can check in event viewr

otherwise i suggest u to do a memtest

No it does not autoreboot. How to check even veiwer or do a memtest ? Tried to turn on my PC today. First 2 times within seconds of boot up and yet to enter windows again black screen. 3rd time got into window and then black screen in about 3 minutes.

Everytime I try to start up after black screen, I need to off the psu switch and wait a few minutes before trying to boot up or else it would not power on.

Not sure I can even get in long enough to check event viewer or do memtest .

i think the fact that you have to flip the psu switch might indicate that its a PSU issue. Like i said before, try take out 1 stick of ram and see if still get the same problems. Then try with the other stick. If still keep on black screen, it can only be your PSU that is failing
