Can anyone recommend a consumer grade 2 TB Nvme M.2 SSD? Mostly for gaming and windows.
Is going local or Amazon a better/cheaper option?

**Still using a PCIE gen3 mobo

honestly i don't think you can see any diff from gen 3 to gen 4 ssd for gaming.. maybe game load faster 1 sec?

but in terms of spending extra money just for it i don't think so is worth.

WD is good. A lot of reports of Samsung Evo 970 failures so I'd avoid that.

you wont really get a answer, the more popular models will have more failures and "rants" online simply because more are sold. all nand is very reliable, just avoid dodgy chinese brands and QLC for now. maybe avoid kingston too.

Does it make sense to buy a smaller 500gb NVME for windows and 2 TB SSD for games and programs?

Adata SX8200 Pro, WD Black, Samsung Evo 970 Plus are all good options.

Some programmes like to dump files on the C drive AppData folder even though you install the main programme on a HDD, personally I'll go with the highest capacity SSD you can afford.

No, to fully utilize the speed of nvme, you need to transfer/ copy paste big files regularly. Otherwise it's just for flexing or self satisfaction.

You won't see much benefits for just using it as boot drive. At most 1 or 2 sec faster than Sata ssd.

Not sure what is your definition of most reliable though? Reliable speed or reliable durability/ longevity? The former is pretty easy to recommend, while the latter, there is no guarantee.

So far, I would recommend WD Black from Amazon because you can RMA it with WD Singapore. I used to also recommend Adata SX8200 Pro, but because they recently downgraded the NAND controller quietly to something slower, it actually degrades the speed. Sabrant is good, but claiming warranty is going to be more troublesome since you need to send it back to US.

Actually I would also recommend Transcend. It is a very low profile company in the retail space, but they make good quality products.

Currently I am using a 500GB SSD so not enough for a few games plus windows. 1TB might just be enough so thought to buffer up to 2TB.

It seems like 2TB SSD is a better option.

More towards reliability than the speed.

Is there any transcend model you recommend?
