Most value for money haswell bundle?

Hi Guys,

I'm confused by so many haswell bundle. Which one is the most value for money at the moment?

I don't need to OC and play mostly football manager, a bit of Civilsation 5 and a bit of Skyrim. I'm also concern with energy cost so I don't think I should go icore7 right?

500 is just for the Mobo + CPU?

If you dun talk about i7, you got 3 choices to choose from, since i3 Haswell is not available yet.

i5-4430 -- 3.0 GHz, Turbo 3.2 GHz
i5-4570 -- 3.2 GHz, Turbo 3.6 GHz
i5-4670 -- 3.4 GHz, Turbo 3.8 GHz

and you probably wun need to get Z87 mobo.
B85 or H87 should suffice.

Using MSI mobo as example and Best Buy's pricelist as a gauge.
Adding i7 as reference.

B85
MSI B85M‐G43 + i5-4430 = $353
MSI B85M‐G43 + i5-4570 = $371
MSI B85M‐G43 + i5-4670 = $394

MSI B85M‐G43 + i7-4770 = $496

H87
MSI H87M‐E33 + i5-4430 = $357
MSI H87M‐E33 + i5-4570 = $375
MSI H87M‐E33 + i5-4670 = $398

MSI H87M‐E33 + i7-4770 = $500


So I not very sure what your budget gonna consists of, what other tasks you will be doing, and what is your existing specs.

the problem is i'm not too sure how much to spend also.. Maybe around 1k max.. lower if possible.

i have a existing GPU (660), Harddisk.. just need to get case, motherboard, CPU and ram.. I think i can reuse my power supply.. 500w cooler master.

btw power supply is no chipset specific right? I can use my old PSU which i still using for core 2 duo?

Power supply is an issue for Haswell because of their new sleep state that draws too little current. It's safer for your PSU to be approved for it.

I give you a rough recommendation, with keeping the budget low in mind.

Processor + Mainboard
Intel® Core™ i5-4430 + MSI B85M‐G43 (or ASROCK B85M‐PRO4) = $353
Memory
Kingston 4GB DDR3 PC12800 1600MHz x 2 = $39 * 2 = $78
Casing
Sharkoon T28 = $89 or Corsair Carbide Series 200R = $79

Total = $353 + $78 + $89 = $520

PSU should be okay.. I not sure about whether is it reliable anot.

I also reused my PSU from C2D, but apparently mine was a rather good one.

Feel free to look around and check the casings to see whether you like it or whether the components is up to your preferences.

Is already discussed that most users will never use that C6-C7 sleep states, and most of the motherboards disable that by default.

B85 series does not support it as well IRC.

All PSUs WILL work with Haswell and if you have old ones that are from reputable brands that are 3-4 years back should be okay.

really need haswell for your usage? why not go for i3-3210 instead...can save around $150

i normally don't put my computer to sleep.. so the sleep state thing won't matter right?

Thanks bro! I'm thinking of the R4 case.. seems like good review..

I have bad experience with MSI product so I think i will go asus or gigabyte.. i should go H87 right? I need PCI-E 3.0 for my GTX660 to have max bandwidth..

I think most people do not understand the PSU and C6/C7 power states issue with Haswell. Again I mention ISSUE, not PROBLEM, you can read my initial post. Please do not attack me if I'm mistaken, I myself accidentally wrote "sleep state"

the C6 power state is a CPU power state that it goes into when idling, it is not a ACPI sleep state like S3, S4, S5. I gather that people are mistaken because of these posts:

C6 has nothing to with sleep.

Anyway, I consider this an issue that everyone should consider because the main draw of Haswell is further power saving, an onward trend since Sandy Bridge. This is new tech and therefore one should consider not simply dismiss. A super low power CPU state to me is not just about drawing power but running cooler idle temps.

Again please don't attack me i'm simply saying these are points to consider

Haha.. No problem.. :s13: My apologies.. =:p

But, I dun think C6/C7 states really matters to most users.
Probably only to users that on their com 24/7 and most of the time being idle.

I think at least for me, the EIST + Adaptive Voltage for Haswell is saving enough power and is cool enough.
