Hi, I have lost touch with PC upgrades. Want to add some storage for my current PC. What size and brand has the most value for money and reliability? Where to buy? I am referring to SATA3 internal 3.5" HDD. Thanks a lot.

Give Hitachi or Toshiba a shot. Think they are generally cheaper. And yeah, I am not fan of WD Green.

@1TB, i'll vote for WD blue. It performs similarly to WD black, but is much cheaper.

@3TB i'll vote for Toshiba, which is formerly from hitachi.

I'll give WD green a pass due to head parking issues (which i haven't been following and may be fixed by now)

I did the following awhile back ...

Price from Bizgram (Dated 16 Feb 2013) :

Western Digital Green 3TB @ $173 - Price/GB : $0.058/GB
3yrs warranty : Price/GB/1yr warranty = $0.019/GB/1yr warranty

Western Digital Red 3TB @ $237 - Price/GB : $0.079/GB
3yrs warranty : Price/GB/1yr warranty = $0.026/GB/1yr warranty

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Western Digital Black 2TB @ $195 - Price/GB : $0.098/GB
5yrs warranty : Price/GB/1yr warranty = $0.020/GB/1yr warranty

Western Digital Black 4TB @ $408 - Price/GB : $0.102/GB
5yrs warranty : Price/GB/1yr warranty = $0.020/GB/1yr warranty

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

From the above stats .... WD Black seems to be a good choice.

personally... i'd go for external HDD to keep most of my data... and internal SSD for all my applications and OS... optionally an internal HDD for data i access frequently...

regards,
wacky
