Motherboard RGB headers

looking to add more bling bling
thinking of getting from taobao

seems like the motherboard headers for RGB are all 4 pins but
are they of the RGB+ kind?

or +CKSDGND kind?

or GNDDICI+ kind?

The first one is then the correct.

The others comes with some controller ic.

Do note that some led strips comes in GRB orientation. So plugging in with the mobo may habe different color orientation displayed.

Rgb fans usually have their own connector/controller.

Eg.
- NZXT Aer need Hue+ Controller
- Corsair SP120 or HD120 RGB need its own proprietary controller
- Thermaltake Riing need its own controller too

RGB strips on the other hand can directly plug into mobo as long as the type you bought is the 5050 type and you have the extention cable for it. High end board or AMD AM4 board have these kind of header (AMD due to Ryzen 7 RGB Wraith Cooler, other branding due to their proprietary RGB sync function like Asus Aura or MSI Mystic Light)

Some board allow you to calibrate the light, like my ROG Strix X370-F Gaming using the Aura software, so the board will recognize which pin is which colour. So the orientation is not too important to some board.

No cannot. Those fans have their own type of connector and controller unit. Typically connected with either external controller or USB 2.0 header to be controlled within Windows via manufacturer software.

Yes
If you put RGB to blue, it cools system down. If you put RGB to red, it boosts performance.
If you put RGB to white, you've a night light!
Then if you put RGB to yellow, it'll reduce your eye strain!
Lastly, put to green to be more environmental

yes
if your hp is < 10% it flashes red
if your musou or gauge or turbo is full it flashes yellow
normal is green

The only thing you need to note, is the +12V header from the mobo matches the LED strip header, typically denoted with an arrow sign.

Technical fact: No.

Humanistic fact: Yes. Because you see something you like, you will have better mood and better feeling. Hence, improve your work efficiency overall with a better mood and motivation.

So can you please stop asking the same thing in multiple threads, trying to imply the same logic that RGB components should not be spent because it don't contribute to the value and performance of a rig? Everyone got their own budget and preference and I hope you can respect their decision and rationale, even if it don't align with yours.

means if i were to use individually addressable kind of strips or fans totally cannot use motherboard headers
wasted all the headers have to find proper controller

You could say so. So far only some LED strip uses the motherboard RGB header. Those that offer controller for sales, usually not the typical header and require their respective proprietary controller unit.

Pretty much this, was getting a fair bit annoyed seeing similar replies by the same guy over and over again bashing RGB when we all have our own opinions.

On topic, are the LED strips themselves really fragile or? Let's say I try to stretch the strip a little, will it break? lol.

Also say if I buy a Corsair 570X, will the LED strips change colors together with the RGB fans?

Don't take him seriously loh.

The fact DIY desktop is very personal. Some like to decorate it till damn nice. Some just want it to look like junk.

The fact that some enthusiast here would rather have a nice PC to look good and feel good about it. Using creativity to build something that they can imagine and like.

While some, the not too enthusiast type may probably heck aesthetics in mind but want a PC to just work.

Any way, if there is any disagreement, just move on and respect other people build. Not condemn. If they like it that way, so be it.

Still okay lar. Some are fragile (like the one I used to used. The Silverstone LS02 that come with my Prime X370-PRO mobo during a promo) the green is busted and I cannot light certain colours. Where as another one I used before, currently at my company doing some testing, deepcool rgb 350, that lasted quite well without issue even after some torture treatment.

Regarding the 570X, nope the controller for the SP120 is dedicated for the fan only. If you want them to sync, you might need to change to different fan. Say NZXT Aer which uses the Hue+ as a controller and you can connect NZXT Hue extension rgb strip to make them sync with the fans via the CAM software.

Another way is get Asus Aura compatible board and component, like Cooler Master Masterfan RGB and some Aura compatible led strips, all control via the Aura software.

Would recommend the first option as I find the CAM software more polished and versatile compared to Aura. But it's more expensive too.
