this is not called MR... but is called ROD

MR is only when u complete your cycle and before the ROD age (40 for WOSEs)

ROD is therefore, for those who cant complete the cycle before the age of 40 (for WOSEs).

MR = watch, cert + ceremony
ROD = well, basically is Mindef will see u again in your next lifetime.. unless there is a war coming.

I thought MR means, until you ROD, you are legally still liable to be called up if there’s war, but ROD means even if war also wouldn’t be called up?

both are still liable depending on the severity and necessity. to be more precise, after ROD u no longer need your equipment, no longer need to notify for Overseas etc. only perhaps the manpower if they are able to get upon govt approval.

bascially all citizens can serve in the nation's defence still.

Really??? Under existing legislations, people are still liable to be called up "depending on severity and necessity" upon ROD? If so which piece of legislation?

Well, according to the Enlistment Act

“person subject to this Act” means a person who is a citizen of Singapore or a permanent resident thereof and who is not less than 16 years and 6 months of age and not more than 40 years of age or, in the case of a person who —
(a) is an officer of the armed forces or a senior military expert; or
[28/2009 wef 01/04/2010]
(b) is skilled in an occupation which the Minister by notification in the Gazette designates as an occupation required to meet the needs of the armed forces,

not more than 50 years of age;

though not conclusive, but at least there is some basis other than what you have mentioned which may indeed be fake news or misleading.

So I am not sure why are you calling people trolling when you are unable to substantiate your claims.

In addition

However, you will still need to apply for an Exit Permit if you are travelling overseas for 6 months or longer. You should also maintain your personal equipment as you may still be activated for operational service up to your statutory age – 50 and 40 years old for Officers and WOSEs respectively.

https://www.ns.sg/web/wcm/connect/n...opics/orns/completion-of-orns/phasing-into-mr

Based on the read of this, it suggests that upon reaching statutory age, you may not be activated for operational service.

Also

Under the Enlistment Act, Chapter 93, NSmen will not be liable for NS call-ups when they reach the statutory age limit of 40 for Warrant Officers, Specialists and Enlistees ( WOSEs) and 50 for Officers. In other words, personnel reaching the stated statutory age limit will no longer be liable to be called up for any NS activities such as ICT, IPPT, mobilisation etc.

So care to clarify your statement if not explain please?

perhaps u should re-read your context.

I think you missed the drift here.

you missed out on the "not more than 50 years of age"?

Let me try to break it down for you.

  1. “person subject to this Act” means a person who is a citizen of Singapore or a permanent resident
  2. is not less than 16 years and 6 months of age and not more than 40 years of age

or, in the case of a person who

  1. is an officer of the armed forces or a senior military expert; or
  2. is skilled in an occupation which the Minister by notification in the Gazette designates as an occupation required to meet the needs of the armed forces

  • not more than 50 years of age

So the part where you highlighted in red doesn't really matter as there is an overarching clause of "not more than 50 years of age" <- Based on current legislation. Of course parliament can change the legislation, but I am talking about current and in case for the avoidance of doubt of what I am saying, "notification in the Gazette" is different from changing legislation outright eh.

-----------------

Based on the read of this, it suggests that upon reaching statutory age, you may not be activated for operational service.

What I mentioned is not key, as that is my own interpretation. But what is quoted is the key, i.e. "you may still be activated for operational service up to your statutory age – 50 and 40 years old for Officers and WOSEs respectively"

So until reaching statutory age - 50 and 40 years old for Officers and WOSEs respectively, one may still be activated.

If it is the case that people may still be activated above statutory age - 50 and 40 et al, where bother stating any age?

The confusion is between the term MR and discharge.

You MR when you when you've done 10 ICT. You get MR letter, attend MR ceremony, get the CPF top up, a shiny red medal & a watch. Once you MR, you will no longer be required to attend IPPT, IPT, ICT, mob, etc. However in times of major emergencies you can still be recalled.

Depending on how "on" your NS unit is, you could MR well before you turn 40. In my case I MR when I was 35. I had disrupted 2 years for studies and deferred once for work if not I would have MR when I was 32!

After you MR, you will no longer be required to attend IPPT, IPT, ICT, mob, etc. However in times of major emergencies you can still be recalled.

Discharge is when you hit 40 (50 for officer). If you have not completed 10 ICT you will still be discharged. Just that you are not considered to have MR hence you do not get CPF top up, red medal or the watch. But you are still a free man.

So technically its wrong to say you can still MR when you hit 40 because when you hit 40 you are DISCHARGED. You only MR when you've done your 10 ICTs.

Don't forget MR stands for MINDEF Reserve, meaning you finish your 10 ICTs and you get posted to MINDEF Reserve and are recalled only when the sh*t hits the roof. When you are 40 you get discharged. You DO NOT get posted to MINDEF Reserve when you are 40.

Long story short, you MR either when you hit 40 (50 for officer) or when you've done 10 ICT. Only diff is if you finish 10 ICT you get the CPF top up, a shiny red medal & a watch. If never complete ICT you will not get these 3 things but will still MR when you turn 40.

Once you MR, you will no longer be required to attend IPPT, IPT, ICT, mob, etc. However in times of major emergencies you can still be recalled. Once you turn 40, you are discharged and get a letter from MINDEF thanking you for your service and you will not get recalled even if World War 3 breaks out.

In my case I received my MR letter when I was 35 and my discharge letter when I was 40. So I'm speaking from experience unlike some people who speak through their arse and argue for the sake of arguing.
Though you can't see this, thanks for confirming that Calander gave misleading info / fake news and still accuse people of trolling.

is basically the same as my previous post. Guess you should again read everything.

As for the part:
"So technically its wrong to say you can still MR when you hit 40 because when you hit 40 you are DISCHARGED. You only MR when you've done your 10 ICTs."

there isn't any part in my context indicated that. Re-quoting part of my earlier post:

"MR is only when u complete your cycle and before the ROD age (40 for WOSEs)
ROD is therefore, for those who cant complete the cycle before the age of 40 (for WOSEs)."
