The Acer Aspire One with 120gb and 6 cell batt is already on sale in Singapore.

DO check it out. At $799 only.

I love it.

but it seems the last review on the Aspire by HWZ rated it 3.4 out of 5. So which ultra-portable? Confused....

HWZ reviewed the 8gb SSD LINUX version.

Just go to the shops and test out the various display units be it the Acer, Asus or MSI Wind. Then decide which suits you best (Keyboard, LCD size, HDD options and build quality and design) .

It is very subjective. To each his own. There is no PERFECT ultra-portable netbook yet. There are more players coming in eg Dell E and Lenovo etc...

For me, the design and blue color of the Acer Aspire One attracted me and I . But some may like the design and looks of the MSI Wind, Asus 901 or 1000H.

Price range similar for all the models tested in Digital Life.... plus or minus so boils down to which form factor, screen size and HDD option you like best.

If you need HDD, then 901 is out for you, only Acer Aspire One Win XP HDD version, Eeepc 1000h and MSI Wind currently is with hdd. If you want a good KB, then 901 is also out.

So down to only 3 options. For me, I decided on Acer because of the Form factor and its Glossy LCD screen. (The LCD glossy screen looks very good for movies and photos compared to 1000h and MSI Wind - but comes with the usual problems of Glare on glossy screen).
CHeers.

Hope this helps

If the Wind came with a touchscreen panel upgrade, it may just become the perfect UMPC...

Touch is very overrated. It might be useful for a phone (though that is very debatable), but for the notebook with a mouse, the mouse is infinitely more useful than a touchscreen. Have you ever owned or used a touchscreen notebook? Let me tell you, it's really annoying. You will just go back to using your mouse really soon.

Hi all, i am a photography enthusiast and often edit my photographs.
Am really impress by MSI wind's weight, size and price.
But is the specs suitable for programs like adobe photoshop CS?
Am worried that the specs might be too slow for photoshop.
Or is there anyone who can reccomend a better notebook for my photography hobby?
Thanks alot...

Depends how you look at it... Of course if you're using a full-sized laptop (14.1" and above), you wouldn't need a touchscreen because:
1) the screen is big enough,
2) the touchpad is big enough, and
3) the screen is far enough from you.

Contrary to what you think, I've used the Kohjinsha before (my boss' SH series), and because:
1) the screen is just darn small,
2) the touchpad is the size of my 2 thumbs side by side (yesh, I'm fat, bite me...) and
3) the screen is so close to me...

... that having a touchscreen is very useful in that if i need to click on anything, I can just reach forward and touch the screen with a stylus or fingernail... Instead of squinting and looking for the cursor and then delicately maneouvring the cursor to where I wanna click...

The Wind is of a just nice size, small enough to warrant a touchscreen... IMHO, I agree mostly with you that a mouse is definitely better, but obviously you've never had to use a notebook on the go...

Think about it for a second. If you're really a mobile warrior, where in 7 hells would you find the luxurious space to put your notebook on a nice sturdy table with adequate space to put your nice mouse beside, complete with a nice mousepad? Think "mobile warrior", "using a laptop on your lap-top", bro...

me agreed wif GeneKoh too abt the touchscreen. what i feel is that touchscreen supposed to try to me life easier if we don't have the use of mouse as an option. but the icons or app have to be finger friendly, big enough for general finger sizes, and screen have to be clear under normal surrounding lighting conditions (how to touch anything on the screen if u can see anything clearly, rite?)

IMO, in fact, 10-in 1024 is good enough for touch app, try to touch a desktop icon on a 17-in LCD to simulate it. but think only Vista have the built-in touchscreen feature program...

just my thought, sorry for OT :s7:

That thing is a piece of crap . Horrible specs and super ugly as well . You would do better buying the original EEE 701 for 399 bucks

No it's not branded as Packard Bell here. They look identical with the alien design but they are not the same. :s13:

I saw this selling at one of the shops in SLS top floor. It's ugly and quality is really bad, much worst than Wind IMHO. :s13: I would advice you to get something else instead. Built quality wise, Eee PC and AspireOne is not bad.

I have to disagree... The Wind is actually one of the best specs and the best-looking ones...

A good benchmark for poor specs, crap quality and bad looks IMHO is the MiniNote and maybe the EeePC 701.

Looks is totally subjective, no point trying to convince one another of it...

What i find interesting is that, yes everyone knows the via processor in the Mininote is weak and acknowledges it.

Review always slam the mininote for the lousy via processor but always praise the solid aluminium case and nice sleek design. You are the first person to claim that the mininote has crap quality and looks :D haha

Just goes to show how Looks is totally subjective and varies from person to person!

I would suggest anyone buying to really hands on, play around, COMPARE THE LCD HINDGES between these models and see for yourself before deciding. I have tested the Wind and compared with my friend's 1000H next to one another and was rather disappointed with Wind (had higher expectation). If you like "springy hinges", guess what? Wind is the one for you! :D Not for me thou. Personal preference.

Just follow your heart and don't regret! :D

Agreed... Looks can be subjective to every individual's standards..

I also try not to believe reviews in the media... I used to work in a foreign media, and I know how "good reviews" can sometimes be bought...

But the Astone/Packard Bell looks as if it hit every branch of the ugly tree when it fell down from R&D heaven. Everyone agree?
