Hi, I would like to ask if anyone has any experience hiking up mt fuji's fujinomiya trail? I found out that there are some mountain huts along the way (9th station?), but what I would like to know is if it is possible to make a reservation for those mountain huts.

This is my rough itinerary:
- Arrive in tokyo at around noon, roam around shinjuku and stay in shinjuku capsule hotel
- Next day morning, take the shinkansen to shin-fuji station, then the bus to fujinomiya 5th station, most likely reaching by noon?
- Hike up fujinomiya trial.
- Stay in the mountain hut before it turns dark (is there any mountain hut to stay in if I can't make it in time to the 9th station before darkness falls?)
- Wake up for the sunrise at around 4-5am
- Hike down and catch the bus and shinkansen to Osaka

May I also know if there is any luggage storage area at Fujinomiya 5th station (if we are not packing light...)?

Unlikely there is anyone here... there are only a handful here who has gone up Mt Fuji... and I think all went up by the Yoshida trail.

Your information for Fujinomiya's hut can be found on this website

I bet at least half of those huts speak only Japanese. Maybe you can try asking dimitri_san here to help you call up?

Thanks for the info! I believe it is not advisable to book on the spot? I will be staying overnight on the 19-20 August which I believe should be a peak period?

Yes you probably should have booked at the beginning of July.... you can try your luck calling up? Your dates are one week after Obon... not sure...

I managed to make bookings at the summit station, however I forgot to ask if they provide sleeping bags. Do they provide sleeping bags or do we have to bring on our own?

The hut tat I will be staying does provide. I would assume its standard issue

Just nice I am recently toying with the idea of 'climbing' Fuji in September, right before the declared official season ends this year. Am thinking of hiking from 1st station on the Yoshida trail.

Some of the links I have found great info on:

Climbing Mt. Fuji - Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

TOKYO ASAKUSA GUIDE - Climbing Mt. Fuji (not sure how updated this is)

Btw, how did you manage to book the hut? Could u spare some details here? Thanks!

Good info you have there. I'm heading up fuji on 2 Sep n booked my bus n mountain hut package from willer express.

Here's a list of lodging on yoshida trail

Haha, if I go, will be a week later than u. Thanks for the link. But can u shed some details on the Willer Express package?

Probably will plan to stay near Fujisan station, either start at Sengen Shrine, or take a bus to first station then start from there.

What gear will u be bringing? I am more concerned with the type of jacket. I am thinking fleece plus waterproof outer layer should be enough. Maybe bring additional uniqlo light down jacket

The package consists of return bus from Tokyo to yoshida trail 5th station, one night mountain hut accommodation with dinner and breakfast and also a onsen trip on e way back.

For gearwise I have wind proof, water proof ski outer, probably with fleece n quick dry compression top.

I think the down is essential. Don't forget your head protection too. and gloves and hopefully you have something windproof and warm for your legs as well.

How long was the climb for you? Do you stayed in the huts? How are the huts like? Are they just like wooden sheds where everyone will sleep in sleeping bags on the floor?

If you have never climbed any mountain and if your slightly unfit like me, about 10 hours with lots of breaks

If you are experienced, it'll take you around 6-7 hours

Regarding the huts, during the peak climbing season July-August, book online it'll be full throughout the night, and yes there exactly like what you describe them to be
