Is it possible to use the On-board audio + another Sound Card? Not trying to use them simultaneously, but i want to be able to switch between the two from my windows audio control panel. MUST i disable the on-board audio to be able to use the sound card or can i just leave both on and switch as and when i want to? :s11:

Yes you can do that. At the volume control. Right click it and select sound.

From there select which audio device you wanna output it.

There will display all the possible sound output. Disable accordingly.

yap i know the windows can do that, i do that for my hdmi and onboard audio. But now i only worry if i buy a sound card then will there be any conflicts on my PC? As in can i even install a sound card while not disabling my on board sound card from bioz? :O

I don't think you will have any issue as I tried before.

You can have 2 sound card operating simultaneously let alone manually select which one to be the default sound output.

Key factors are using a proper standalone sound card (not software emulator) and DO NOT use the driver provided by Windows, use the driver from the sound card manufacturer which support individual setting for sound output. Microsoft Windows driver do not support this by designed.

yes can be done. I'm running a USB DAC with JRiver output to my speakers. On board sound output to my monitor speakers.

So I can listen to my music while surfing youtube, FB etc. Though I will set it at a min volume or 0. If I need to hear it louder, I'll pause my JRiver and watch whatever on youtube then resume JRiver.

I use USB DAC and onboard sound output on old laptop (arrandale chipset one) running windows 7.

Just need to make sure that your applications use the desired audio output
