Multiplug went boom

My multiplug used for my comp suddenly went boom

To be precise there was a sudden loud boom sound with a flash and the electronics associated it went off

There was no overloadig of devices...used for about 2 years...

While im gonna get a new one to replace im very worried the potential damage caused to my pc if any and if safe to turn on etc aftee awhile

try getting those multiplugs or socket extensions by belkin.

they are all equipped with surge protection.

i have been using them for at least 5 years liao.

haven't boom yet haha

no problem as my whole house using belkin plugs and extensions.

if no good i also dun dare to recommend...later u blame me

better check your motherboard and PSU for any visible damage before you turn on again.

see the board for any burn mark or popped capacitor. especially VRM around the CPU socket. not sure post pic

PSU that one got a test, but you must be confident safe and sure before you do

actually by the time got jibabom already (after switch off and unplugging muliplug) can check if got the smoke smell and coming from where. if got some from your PC then seriously worry

No smoke smell or anything from pc...only a little from the multiplug thats all

Nah not trusting my old multiplug...got a new one...
Motherboard seems ok
I realize it caused a trip in the wall plug as i need to turn it back on on the switchboard in the store room

*edit* turned on my comp and posting from it....seems...fine i think

Just switch it on to test again without the multiplug that blew. It should work fine if there is no electrical damage.

Anyway, I am not sure what multiplug you are using, but usually I do advise to buy a decent brand. Not that they are foolproof, but you can have a little more confidence of the quality.

ill look up belkin as stupidog recommended.

Anyways i got a new one in the interim and my comp has been working fine for the past 10 mins and i assume it SHOULD BE ok? im still scared shitless haha

Especially need to confirm that this isnt my PSU issue and that its not gonna go boom again

i dun follow a specific brand, i usually just change to a new one every 1 or 2 years and ill just get one from challenger that doesnt look like made in china and has the safety mark

The best way is to use the com to determine if any parts are faulty as a result of this incident. Since you have used it for 10 mins, just use it normally. If it is damaged, the damaged is anyway done regardless whether you switch it on or not. Chill man.

im fine if theres some damage if any though best is not..

i just dont wish to have another big flash and a boom sound again if not ill have a heart attack

Relax. A boom in the multiplug, what's the worst thing that can happen? Short-circuit the equipment's 230V to mains 230V?
