Skip the Day 5 shopping and go to Chengdu. Beijing has nothing to offer for shopping.

But since you are at Chengdu, don't waste the opportunity to go Jiuzaigou.

Beijing any nice attractions recommendation as only have 3 days stay. Was considering Klook day tour group to visit Great Wall, it is easy to travel there from Beijing or Shanghai.

Hey, I second the above advice to skip the extra day in Beijing and do the extra day in Jiuzhaigou instead. Beijing is really boring for shopping and you covered the main sightseeing spots already.

I am literally at Jiuzhaigou now lol, typing this while waiting for my return train. It's a bit like Switzerland with all the snowcapped mountains. The only thing if you want to do Jiuzhaigou, book the hsr tickets early. The trains will be super packed especially weekends as it's a to-do place for the local tourists.

Do you need a tour guide for Jiuzhaigou? Still undecided on whether I should get one.. thanks.

U mean u will book yr own train tickets then book a guide when in jzg or book a guide to bring you and guide you in jzg?

i booked my train tickets and hotel to jzg, planning to trek on own coz i dont think its difficult. But sianz, i down with a flu and had to cancel my jzg 3 nights trip and changed to trek in a nearer location (90 min didi from chengdu) at 青城山(后山). Very pleased with the 4-hr beautiful hike (couldnt make it to jzg but at least i got to try 五龙沟. Note: 五龙沟 is not a very easy trek, at least for me.)

*always avoid weekends so as not to clash with their own tourists else experiences will be negatively affected. One cant get a picture like the above if visiting on a weekend.

At first I misread Beijing + Chengde.

its not realistic. Beijing and Chengdu are too far apart and both major city. The distance apart is like SG to BKK.

Beijing itself can hits 9days easily even without going out of the city. Chengdu also. Better for Beijing+ Chengde

The 后山 trek I read was developed in 1990. Ticket only RMB20 - very worth it.

Majority of tourists will visit 前山 as it is more tourist-friendly / commercialised. If join tour group or with tight schedules, most time will only be given/allocated about 2-3 hours to spend on 青城山 if it is in the itinerary = no chance to go 后山 (which is about another 30 min car ride from 前山).

I prefer trekking with 'water' scenery and so 青城山 was a good alternative when I couldn't make it to jgz.

ya, all also very big and 走到脚都要断了 if need to rush.

usually I allocate about 4 hours walking per day else next day I probably cant move oredi (after walking then I rest in hotel / go massage / hair cut / whatever).

this 熊猫基地,I spent about 3+ hours leisure walking to complete most of it:

*if anyone wants a good massage place ("clean one") with good masseurs in Chengdu near / at 春熙路、太古里 can PM me. My girl likes it a lot as the masseur managed to adjust her bones a bit and her chronic back ache improves a lot.

You try黄山 and 张家界 , you leg will break

张家界 I went.

Legs literally almost broke.

Took TCM to massage for 6 hours continuously before I could resume walking ability.

*so I will not go 黄山 / 峨眉山 coz don't want to go through similar pain.

** I enjoy watching this trekking-avid guy do trekking in China (he climbed for about 15 hours one way up to 峨眉山 that I watched oredi also faint).

His jzg steps clocked 10 hours for about 40,000 steps (that I will break into 2 days else sure leg break / torturing / fall sick etc).

黄龙九寨 station (see where you want to start the train from. I booked from Chengdu.)

*train can be less than 2 hrs to slightly more than 2 hrs, depending on which train you catching. Plan your time and book early else preferred timing can be sold out very fast.

**after research, I settled with Holiday Inn Express hotel (as I read about 10-15 min walking distance to park entrance + it has a bus that takes about 2 hrs from the train station to there conveniently).

***as usual, avoid visiting parks on weekends.
