Sigh, my comp is dead and I will have to build a new one. Main thing is to play BF4. Been surviving on a pair of 6970...... Time to change.:s13: I am planning to get most of my parts from same distro to make RMA easier for me.

MSI Z97 Gaming 9 AC (I like this board because of the evenly spaced slots)
i7 4790K
2 x 8GB DDR3 2400 RAM
3 x R9 290 4GB
2 x Samsung 850 Pro 512GB (getting from Amazon)
Sound blaster Z
Seasonic 1250W PSU (using back)
Corsair Carbide 540 casing
Dell 27" U2713HM 1440p Monitor

Do you think the PSU is enough or do I need more powerful PSU?

All the highlighted components are not gonna tally.

Reason being, for trifire or triSLI config, you wont wanna go mainstream board and mainstream CPU. There will be bottleneck and you may need to overclock your i7 to keep up with it.

Next is the games you wanna play. There are many games that wont support trifire setup. Furthermore the heat output for all 3 r9 290 will definitely throttle the whole performance of your gaming experience. Even at 2 cards you may have an issue already.

The Casing if you gonna squeeze 3 cards in that cube chassis you might run into heat issues as it wont be well ventilated for all 3 cards even with good fan.

Ram speed wont scale you any much difference, have tried it on BF4 personally. 1600mhz vs 2400mhz. The difference in min FPS was just a mere 3fps, average 4.XXXfps, max 6fps ++.

The SSD I leave it to you if you willing to spend that much.

Actually I wanted 3 cards because of this article...lol

HARDOCP - Running TriFire Three GPUs - AMD Radeon R9 295X2 and XFX R9 290X DD TriFire Review

See quad CF is like WOW!! But no money....:(

Take that review with a pinch of a salt. Real world usage, me and shadow84 already done before crossfire with just 2 cards your main card if not well ventilated will absorb the 2nd card heat output.

Go for single powerful card, since you are going for just a 1440p and 60hz/fps rate monitor.

A single r9 290 or gtx780 can scale that performance.

Single 780ti > 290 xFire given his fat budget. Save headache and brain power thinking about heat ventilation

nope. xfire for the 290x works about as good as SLi for the 780ti... if you're working with 3 1080p monitors or in 4k, the 290x will be a little better option then the 780ti, as it's apparently bottle-necked by it's 3gb of vram.

If you have just one 1080p monitor, there is no reason to get SLi or xfire for either card
