I got mine on 2013 March during an IT fair, boy was I excited back then.
After the dreadful 8 hours of first charge, I jumped out of bed and set up my brand new phone. Everything was cool, when suddenly the phone heats up.

Googled it and thought it was normal because of its sealed design.

Then the battery issue kicks in, 50% drained in less than 3 hours, can you imagine the devastation?

Sent it for repair and Singtel refer me to Sony and back to Singtel and back to Sony, I'm not those customers that shows anger so I talk nice nice. Finally went for a repair at Wisma service centre, told my problem and after a week, (Used my phone for 2 days why can't they give me a brand new one?!), they gave me a brand new phone, cool.

After a few months of usage, everything was cool, then during a chalet..
Brought my phone to a swim cause it claims to be "water-resistant", WATER WENT INTO THE MOTHERBOARD AND IT COULDN'T SWITCH ON, all seals were completely shut, mind you.

Brought it for repair, another dreadful week of waiting and finally, SMS came and I collected my phone, replaced parts and what not.

Well on the bright side, Sony has good music and camera.

So uh, Sony sent me an email today:

NA9PnW3.png

"Upon receiving the device, our engineer notice that under the screen protector is a finger print with grease on it. that may be one of the factor that cause the screen to behave as such."

Really? So I need to wipe my screen whenever there is a fingerprint and I cannot use it unless the fingerprint is wiped?

Also, they never specify which service centre to go to. They really damn pro.

could they be referring to "a finger print with grease, inside the surface of screen protector", which u need to remove the screen protector to clean it?
if so, it could be "always" detected as a finger pressing on the screen.

sure, somehow the grease under the screen protector is registering touches, not all the time, just when it feels like it.

Also, explain the same issue alot of the other Z1 users are facing, my friend has a Z1, is facing this issue and she does not even have a screen protector on.

it's not going to help you if you start quoting friend's friend experience because there are also users with positive experiences.
I had Sony Xperia Z, Z1, Z2 and soon Z3. So far, Sony gives me very good experience. For me, unless Samsung not use SAMOLED and don't have physical Home button or change the design, I am not going back Samsung.

stay focus on your problem and let's sony service engineers help solve your issue. to be fair, if they can't replicate the problem that you faced, there's no way they can solve it.

it seems to me you always encounter the same problem after reinstalling your apps and contacts at home, but Sony said otherwise. Why not you visit them on a weekend morning (or whatever day which you are free for the whole day), collect your phone, perform re-installation on the spot, play with it until you experience the same problem and flag it right on their faces. in fact, this is the best time to Stomp them. but remember to bring along your power bank, charger or laptop if you need to.

having said that, if the same problem did not surface until you reach home. what can we say? either you are a jinx or something wrong with the fengshui of your house. change the latter if you don't intend to change your phone.

I did mention earlier that I installed the essential apps, if Whatsapp, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram can cause issues like this with a top end smartphone, what's the point of having such an expensive phone anyway? Only can call and message might as well get a $30 Nokia?

Yeah, maybe the fengshui of my house not good, keeps killing my Sony phones for no reason. My moto Razr drop so many times liao also no problem.

Anyway, they called me up today to tell me that they decided to replace a fresh new set for me..

well that's what you said. why should anyone believe what you said? if people from sony can't replicate your problem, to them you are just seeking attention. period.

if your phone is really so lousy as you claimed, do it in front of them. i thought that's simple logic + common sense? or do you have something to hide and prefer to do it at home? :s11:

You think I so damn free to keep going down to wisma/bishan uh? not near my house ok. having my data wiped 9 times also not fun ok. Why would I purposely do this to seek attention?

And also, you think I so damn free to go down to bishan the whole day just for this? Besides, 2 days later they call me to tell me they replace a brand new set for me, and that I don't have to go replicate it for them already.

sorry but are you born with this negative and non-constructive attitude?

no one asks you to deliberately go down to check. didn't they send you an letter asking you to collect the phone. so during collection, can you on the spot kindly install whatever apps that you usually use (anyway you only have a handful based on your previous reply). and after which you claimed that you experienced touch screen problem. so please play with your phone for a few moments while you are still at the service centre. is it too demanding for your to do that? or do you prefer to test it at home and if the same problem occurs again, you enjoy making yet another trip?

omg is like telling a primary 3 kid what to do, seriously.

if you already learned how to count, this is going to be your 3rd Sony phone. you'd terrible experiences with the last two, what make you so sure that the replacement phone going to be ok? isn't it necessary for you to be doubly caution when taking over the 3rd phone.

anyway, i wish you good luck with your 3rd and possibly 4th/5th Sony phone.

Re installed all my apps and synced my contacts. Guess what? still the same issue of "ghost touches" on my phone.

By "re install all my apps" I mean the essential ones like Facebook, Twitter, Whatsapp and instagram. besides, I dont really use all that many apps on my device, the previous time before it was sent it, it only had one ebook reader and one game added to the previous list of "essential" apps.

note: in my previous reply, i ask you to lug along your charging cable, power bank & etc not because i expect you to camp overnight at the service centre. but most of the time, a static discharge or a leak from a faulty charging cable will cause the connected phone's touchscreen to register invisible touches. so there's a chance that the problem lies with the cable, not the phone. :s8:

Like he said, he's not THAT free and neither does he have the time to be so free to go up and down to bishan or worse, wisma atria just to endlessly replace his fault riddled phone.

As an EE, your point about faulty cables is BS.

"We would advise you to proceed down to our service centre to look for our supervisor on duty, we will assist you from there to replicate the incident and have the issue resolve."

Does this not mean deliberately go down an check? And like I mentioned earlier, if a smartphone cannot handle some simple essential apps, what's the point of a smartphone? the apps that I used were not even from some obscure and sketchy source/developer, they are widely used for god's sake.

Precisely, I have only know of touch screen problems with some cheap $2 wall chargers, I only use the original Sony ones. Never heard of issues with cables doing this.

Like someone suggested earlier, you may have gotten a lemon.

if a smartphone cannot handle some simple essential apps, then all Sony users would have returned their phones already. But no such news.

Like you say, the apps that you used were not even from some obscure and sketchy source/developer, they are widely used for god's sake.

So quite sure you had a lemon.

After you collected the replacement phone.
If you happy, you use it, Not happy then sell it.

It happen here and it happen everywhere.

I will never return to Sony.
I will never go back to Samsung.
I will not buy HTC again.
No more LG for me.

We all hear these before and alot of times.

Of course there are also praises for them all.
