Last year managed to go to Xiamen for business. Stayed at Double Tree Hotel Wuyuan Bay.
There is nothing much in Xiamen but it is unreal if you compare to the rest of China. FYI, I've been to Guangzhou, Shanghai, Beijing and Dongguan.
The people there are polite to the point you think you are in Taiwan. Mingnanyu is spoken quite often. At the airport, the staff are so courteous you might think you have not landed in China. There was an white haired wizen old lady who needed help to get around and the staff dropped everything to help her get through security. Everyone that the security channel patiently waited for them to clear the old lady.
The taxi drivers are polite. Not the gruff kind you see in Shanghai or Beijing.
People here are natively Hokkien in origin and you don't see a lot of migration from people elsewhere in China. Their hospitality is superb. Like you have returned home!
The streets are super clean.
Tempted to return again just to experience good Chinese hospitality.
