Not sure if you are referring to MYR FDs which is currently paying 3 to 4+% for 1-5 years FDs. I had checked and some banks allow you to open up a FD account without the need for further documentation; just passport. Malaysia also have "SDIC" type of protection for deposits placed in each bank and I would recommend that we check their "SDIC" limit and place deposit within the range for added assurance.
Malaysia has PIDM that covers up to RM250k per depositor per member bank.
Make sure you retain your passport that was used to open any account, even if the passport has expired and been replaced. If you have not proven to the bank of change of passport number, you will still need the old passport to transact.
