Eh what the heck.

I'm currently seeing this deal at their promotion page.

After clicking in, and if i were to type the promo code "FWB", it makes me pay higher than without the promo code. What gives? Getting referred actually increases my price, and i get a shittier router? Wtheck is this.

Was told the exactly same thing when I refer someone.
They should change the name of the referral program to be"friends without benefits"

I'll let other more knowledgeable people comment on CGNAT.

Network wise, MR is not using Starhub's network. It still has its own independent network. What has happened after SH bought over MR is that MR is now using SH a lot more as an upstream provider. Meaning the route that your traffic takes to access the internet - much of the routing now goes via SH.

You might say in that case there's no advantage anymore to subscribing to MR? I can see three advantages:
1) MR still uses its own infrastructure. I don't know how true it is, but their contention ratio (number of subscribers sharing the same bandwidth) is supposedly lower than other ISPs.
2) Not all of the traffic goes via SH. I can still see some routes that are different (and better) than SH's, with lower number of hops and lower latency.
3) MR has free digital voice. SH must pay.

You may be better off with SH if you also use SH mobile or TV and get to enjoy the bundle discounts.
Technology wise CGNAT should not cause any problem if MR set it up right and have sufficient capacity, so for your needs it should not cause any problem. If they messed up, it will be the same no matter if you are on static or CGNAT. Anyway you can pay like 50 bucks to convert to static IP if it is really that bad.
MR is supposed to be managed separately from SH but I really doubt that that will last forever since it make no sense to do that when you can just pool the resource and probably provide a better solution.
If you really despise SH and buying MR only because it is using MR routes then go for something else, 2 years contracts is a long time, so things mightn happen.

Is it possible to submit a request to them to ask them to change the ONT, mine is at least 6 years old already.

The ONT itself can usually last quite long. But the problem is often the power supply or the power supply contact on the ONT.

I replaced my Singtel ONT after 6.5+ years of use (Jan 2012 - Sept 2018) and Starhub ONT after 7.5+ years (Apr 2014 to Dec 2021). Both were due to intermittent power supply contact issues. For Singtel I brought the ONT to SERV+ to replace so the downtime is about half day. For Starhub they came down the second day and the downtime is only 15 minutes. Starhub does charge a small fee which is still reasonable.

Contract with Singtel is expiring and I am thinking to sign up with MR. But I have 1 question, if I don’t have a static IP address with MR, will there be any issues with Xiaomi Camera or Tapo Camera?
My concern is not able to connect back via the app when I am outside.

don't think that's the case anymore.

nowadays it is "cloud based" . Your camera will initial connection to the cloud and stay connected to it by maintaining the session i suppose. When you login to xiaomi app , you will be able to view the camera directly.

(recent experience)

those that requires port forwarding, most likely is NVR type or stoneage IP cam and personally i think it is unsecure as people will random scan and try to expliot the loopholes

I agreed power adapter usually will go first. MR engineer came and replaced my Nokia ONT faulty power adapter and everything back to operation.

This is only true for older kind of cam, new kind like tapo or what all no problem. Mine is MR with no static ip, my wyze cam no problem also.

Just wondering if you have tried Asus Instant Guard and see if it works with MR CGNAT. I am using Instant Guard and it seems to be pretty good feature.

Some Asus router features may not work with CGNAT as well -- like Asus AIcloud (I am not using that).

That is the limitation of CGNAT. Based on your testing results, it will not work properly with Asus DDNS and Asus VPN servers.

That being said, Zero Tier and Tailscale should still work for those who want to use remote access to the router.

You are right, both cannot also hahaha
