The Route10 is like trying to be Ubiqutiti so you can also explore those dream machines if you want

The RJ54 Copper SFP+ heat. - my experience is that it will scald your fingers if you touch it while operating, regardless of activity. But check out the other threads i saw someone suggesting getting a low power one, which should be manageable i suppose

Omada you might need the controller as well, cos i am not sure if the router and switch can run in standalone mode. You can buy the hardware controller, OR use the cloud. I went from software to hardware controller so not sure about the cloud one but should be same and free to use. Omada the firmware update is a bit slower in my opinion if it bothers you

I have the CRS310-8G+2S+IN - it comes out of box in router OS under bridge mode. pretty much is plug and play after initial setup. If you use in room and you mind sound this switch's fan will be an issue, unless you want to grab noctua fans to install. But overall is good switch. it has 2 X SFP+ port for your 10G

Yeah now if you play 10g the hardware is still expensive unless u go china (or the microtik CRS304). But i think unless u got real needs for 10g best to wait to see more cheaper choices.
No worries I have some experience with both the hardware and software controller. Thank you once again for the information.

Asking regarding upgrading my Broadband speed.

I just learned yesterday that MR is now offering 3Gbps.

I'm currently on contract with their 1Gbps service, 9 months in.

My question is - can I ask MR to upgrade my 1Gbps to 3Gbps during this period? (Since I'm paying the same anount)

Or I really need to wait until my 22nd month before I can change to 3Gbps?

EDIT:

Just chatted with support. I'm stuck until my 22nd month before I get the speed upgrade (recontract). CS said they are aware that a lot are enquiring the same question and are working on quicker recontracting timelines. Told me to just check back in the future.

Told them that the speed upgrade could have been an automatic upgrade to us 1Gbps users - since we are paying the same monthly fee. I'd be glad to pay for the ONT change, I just want the speed upgrade.

Yes, you got to wait till nearing the end and MR will send out contract renewal offers.
But bear in mind that for MR, once you recontract, even if one day later, there's a better deal/offer you will not be able to change to it and have to complete the 24 months contract.
Even if you request to "upgrade" etc., MR will not entertain any if or buts, so caveat emptor please.

1gbps is on GPON, and 3gbps is on XGS-PON, so the issue I believe is NLT will charge them for this switch.
If its a 1gbps to 2x 1gbps, you might still have a chance since its just a backend change.

But as what froztheart said, its seems their style is not to entertain such upgrades

Yeah, got the feeling they will definitely brush me off. Recontracted last Apr 2024 and from my understanding, they released the 3Gbps offer last Aug 2024....oh well indeed 🤷‍♂️

I'm more than glad to be charged the 1 time fees - I understand that there might be other changes from what I'm not seeing, I just want to get the speedbump. But yeah, wish they can be a bit more flexible 🤷‍♂️

the use cases for the speedbump are limited for now, mainly just shiok factor. I'm out of contract now and refuse to recon as VQ only allows me to recon to 10gbps which my network equipment now doesn't support and the savings isn't much. Gives me the flexibility to watch and see how the market evolves as I wait for the cheaper hardware to catch up

the problem is that once you are out of contract the mthly charges go up $$ unless you recontract... so be wary of that...

but the price is still higher vs contract for the same 3gb plan for example?
Yep it’s higher. So it’s a short term thing. Like maybe play for a few months see see ($13 per month).

its like want to escape from out of contract price but dont want to commit first because there might be changes (like now) or more obvious example is that there's' a tech show coming up in 3 months etc etc and wanna see if got better deal.

Yes, I believe most MR users will have a taste of rejection. :s13:
When out of contract need wait out till/time it at popular seasons/generally later half of the year to recontract. i.e. CNY/mid year/NDP/BFCM/EOY or tech shows then commit.
Otherwise, have to llst.

MR known for being inflexible.

not much difference for me. the savings is only $1.61/mth if I recon to 10gbps since they don't allow me to recon to 3gbps. Since I have ST as a backup line, I can take my time

I believe most of the ISPs are like MR in this case. You are stuck with the contract.

I only know that VQ allows upgrade within contract, with a fee.

Previously when I was with ST, they allowed upgrade, but that was quite some time back... at least 6 years ago IIRC.

So sorry, I forgot to ask which SFP+ transceiver am I supposed to be getting for the 3Gbps plan to connect my tplink's sfp+. Is it a 10Gbps transceiver to RJ45 type? Something like these?

Generic Compatible 10GBASE-T SFP+ Copper 30m RJ-45 Transceiver Module (LOS)

Generic Compatible 10M/100M/1G/2.5G/5G/10Gbps NBASE-T SFP+ Copper 30m RJ-45 Transceiver Module (LOS)

you need the 10G SFP+ one. Do check compatibility first before purchase. TP link got its own one also

Ethernet is indeed more straightforward with lesser parts to me as well.
why not both duplex single mode fiber and cat6/6a/etc, if you're already going to be digging into your walls? the fiber will be future proof for possibly decades to come, while the copper will perhaps be more straightforward since the PHY is integrated into typical 10G NICs

Singtel and MyRepublic lead the way in Ookla’s 2024 Speedtest Connectivity Report

Photo: Ookla.

MyRepublic achieved a median download speed of 362.34Mbps, and a median upload speed of 300.32Mbps to win its title. In second place was ViewQwest, which recorded a download speed of 336.92Mbps, and SingTel with 332.19Mbps. This isn’t the first time that MyRepublic’s been placed first. What is nice though, is that its download speed is more than 100Mbps faster this time round meaning that Singaporeans are enjoying even faster speeds than before.

MyRepublic also placed first in the Overall Connectivity Score category with a score of 83.89. This just pipped Singtel and ViewQwest at 82.72 and 82.6 respectively. This score provides a measure of the overall fixed network connected experience based on a combination of Speed Score, as well as Scores for Web Browsing, and Video Streaming.

However, Singtel was the Most Consistent Fixed ISP with a score of 93.4%. But it was only 0.3% ahead of MyRepublic at 93.1%.

It will be interesting to see how the ISPs perform as we move towards 10Gbps Internet to the home. But as we said earlier, the big winners in all of this are Singaporeans who are getting access to faster and more reliable speeds.
