I'm planning for a trip at the EOY, tried to google for a forecast for the start of winter, but couldnt find any info. Anyone know any site? Want to see the snow monkeys and visit takayama when it starts to snow. Standard Chartered has a promo but last departure is somewhere around mid of Nov. Planning for 14 days.

Nagano area doesn't normally start snowing until early December.

You see the graphs, the ski resorts with decent snowfall in November are only the Hokkaido ones.

btw if it's not snow season don't bother with the snow monkeys. My parents went in mid-april and the photos they took don't look nice at all with no snow.

I rebook to go nagano again this EOY again at 08-16 Dec 2016, hopefully get to see snow this time round.

A few years ago, I visited the snow monkeys twice within the same trip...with just a 4 days period between both visits.

Since the 2nd visit happened a day after a snowfall, so the place looked so different from before the snowfall.

Oh, and this year, I visited Takayama in Feb (and a friend visited in Jan), we didn't see any snow at all.

Snowfall is very unpredictable these days...just have to try your luck i guess.

I have already booked 1 night at Shirakawa-go and 2 nights before than at Takayama. I got 16 full days just to cover that region.

So far, this is my plan. Abit crazy for us to visit Nara & Himeiji though, but I got extra days and I dk where to go (We left out both places in our past trips, so thinking why not take the opportunity, maybe with so luck, we get snow while we are there)

how about getting the Takayama Hokuriku pass for day 3-7, then single trip tickets from the rest, and jr kansai area pass for himeji. that will save u a bit compared to a 14day pass. the pass also covers the bus to shirakawago.

Looks like a nice trip ahead. I am not sure if you can bored by spending 4 days at Nagoya. Perhaps can venture out to Koya san enroute from Osaka to Nagoya? Hikone castle might be another alternative.

Can head to Nabana no Sato from Nagoya if you liked illumination events. Inuyama Castle is another place to consider.
