Any recommendation for a 2 bay NAS with cloud ability? And the cost plus recommended HDD?

- Want to back up all my files and laptops.
- Want to access documents anywhere from mobile and computers
- no need media playing capabilities

A bit OT but my DS415Play (now discontinued) NAS died on me after 3 years+ and i dont plan to change to another 4-bay NAS.. thus i have spare Toshiba 2 * 4TB to let go.. in case you want to let go..

you should never depend on NAS to backup your data. you still need to backup with other storage devices. the purpose of the NAS is so that you can access your files easily.

brand to go for, i suggest synology. i am using it although mine is the 4 bay. if you are not on tight budget, suggest you try DS218. $348. else if too ex you can lower to 218J, $245.

HDD you can get either seagate or toshiba.

If the NAS barebone hardware is faulty but not the HDDs, can the HDDs be transferred to another NAS and will the data still be intact assuming both NAS are running the same RAID?

Asustor is good value, however the OS still need alot of improvement

For Synology confirm yes, tested. So long you put it in the same slot bay orders.
