NAS recommendations

Hiya, I am think to get a NAS, which model should I get for recommendations.

Also how do one determine 2 bay or above?
I am looking for seamless and ease of access of files from mobile device. Of cos I am concerned on the robustness of security too.

I'm using QNAP TS453d - 4 bay NAS.

As I'm running RAID 5, thus, a minimum of 3 slots needed. My NAS is filled with 3x 4TB Seagate Ironwolf HDD.

Backup from Desktop PC to NAS, using FreeFileSync software. Backing up on both Android and iPhone using QNAP Qfile app to do so.

For added redundancy, I'm backing some important folders from NAS to Cloud as well (automated on weekly basis).

Beside backup, I'm also installed Plex server in my NAS as well.

Can check out the synology nas thread on HWZ forums/reddit. Just got a synology ds918+ 4 bay nas with 3 x WD 8TB hdd in SHR1 (1 hdd redundancy) not long ago.

Installed some nice packages and docker containers for VPN, weekly laptop system backups, full laptop data sync, photos management that works like google photos, bitwarden password manager, plex and jellyfin media server (testing both atm) and other stuff. Really liking the synology web based operating system so far, quite easy to use.

Synology is a good brand. Their interface is simple and easy to use I feel.

I used my DS918+ mainly for storage and movies. they got a suite of DS apps on mobile too. Quite easy to use. The only thing is if you are exposing your NAS outside of your home, be sure to do all the security setup. But if its just using inside your home and only 1 or 2 user should be ok?

Only 2 brands to choose S or Q... but recently many Q users under Qlocker ransomware attacks... thats the reality you have to face exposing to www.

I got my nas for $810. 3x Seagate ironwolf 4tb hdd at $467. So total around $$1,276.

Backing up, I find normal hdd good enough. SSD is expensive.

ts-453d can add SSD for caching purposes which i did not add yet.
