You mean I first do this for Drive 1

When in Storage Manager -> Storage Pool -> Action -> Repair -> Choose Drives (still show capacity as 3.64TB) -> Next -> OK -> Confirm Setting (it show setting as 2.7TB) -> Apply , so it becomes 2.7TB

Than I change out old Drive 2 and install the other 4TB drive (before do "Repair" process) as Drive 2 and Drive 1 will show 3.6TB ?

it will stay as the smallest drive until both drives are upgraded (assuming you are on RAID1 or SHR)

Alarmat , so troublesome...think I copy out all the data in the 3TB NAS than together replace both 3TB old drive with the two new 4TB drive.

why not... SHR (RAID1)? Since you don't have a lot. If not, top up for more space or get an external hdd with (i.e. 8TB) to handle both of the NAS disks.

I didn’t consider this before. Yes, could be an option too.

So if keep it as 2 separate volumes, i have double capacity but risk of data loss higher.

SHR Raid1, i have half the total volume but have a better backup.

I have a theoretical question - assuming only 1 NAS.

Will it work if you take out one of the old 3TB HD and put the new 4TB inside. Set new HD as separate volume first and proceed to copy the data.

Once that’s done, replace the 2nd old 3TB Hd with the new 4 TB and then set SHR Raid1.

Will that work too faster? Than rebuilding the SHR one hard disk at a time?

Raid is never considered a backup. If it did, it will be baid instead of raid

No idea how this works. If you are not in any form of raid in the first place, what is there to sync when you removed the hdd?

Shouldnt complicate things with your not so sure what you are trying to drive and just perform it from scratch?

If buying physical is expensive, you can sign for Azure trial with $200 credits push everything into Azure Storage and transfer it out once you are done with you NAS.

Why i recommend Azure Storage is speed. U are free to use any alternatives as you deem fit

Actually, my theoretical question was for Norman Chan.

My life is much simpler. Just grab one NAS, few HD and just play with it 😀

You should get a replacement disk and rebuild immediately, as a 2nd drive failure will wipe out all your data.

Think should power down the NAS ASAP and take out that HDD for RMA. Go without NAS until the RMA done and replace it for the rebuild. Becasue if another HDD down, than data gone for sure unless you want to risk it and carry on using it with -1 HDD.

Thanks both. I bought a Toshiba N300 to swap out with the Ironwolf. Storage pool repaired successfully after a day.

What is the Toshiba hard disk size that you gotten?

Personally, I feel that you will probably change to 4 bay NAS maybe in the next 1-2yrs.
