Hi all,

Am studying Biz in NBS Yr 1. Find it hard to cope as I do not have a background in econs nor statistics. (Came from poly bio course) Should I change course ASAP or just stick through the 3 year programme and hope for a 2nd class honors? :(

Most people does not have background in what they are doing either and I believe business module are much easier than what is taught in engineering.

If you still have interest in the course, believe in yourself that you can do it.

Interest is the main reason why I'm thinking of leaving the course. I wasn't thinking about what I liked doing when I applied but rather what career prospects I could potentially get if I studied biz

I think interest is really the factor that can sustain you in the long run. I took some business core mods with the NBS peeps (my major is in engineering though) but mostly i can only do well in modules like FM, Deriavatives, etc, because it is closer to what I'm interested in and is the closest I can get to my engineering mindset on optimisation and problem solving.

It is really gut wrenching to be involved in something you don't like or have zero inclination.

Hope it helps, good luck!

Background knowledge is advantageous, but it is by no means necessary. After all, what you learn in NBS (Uni) would be more extensive compared to whatever knowledge that business students learn in poly. No matter where you're from, everyone starts out with a somewhat equal level.

NBS

Can I roughly ask how is the student life of NBS going to be like? I was offered IT in NUS and is considering for an appeal to NBS (I was offered Business during JAE 18/19). Is it going to be a tough course as I have only science background from Polytechnic?

Appreciate any replies. Thank you.

i suggest you switch to bioscience instead. Much easier exam wise. teaching format is lecture and tutorial, most people self study instead of attending.

anyway most ppl in biz dont have background from jc either. still need to learn biz law.. accounting..

depending on what you specialize into, it will get worse... need to apply lots of formulas. Most mods have group work and is more competitive in presentation compared to bioscience.

Hi. Just take note, if you do a degree in life sciences, you need at least a Masters or PhD to find research work in life sciences. You may struggle if you have an honours degree.
In biz courses you can find work in thousands of businesses in Sg.
So evaluate your interests. Biz course is not really that tough compared to Law or Medicine.

lel dont go into nbs thinking u will get your desired specialisation.

alot of ppl including me get fked up by the sch

the specialisation will direct more or less of your career path, hard to deviate from the norm.

of cost there will be outliers but..:s22:

given another chance i wont be bothered going in, since i am sour grapes
any issues with the specialisation?? :(
