AB0601 COMMUNICATION MANAGEMENT FUNDAMENTALS -> Don't need to shell out $24 if you can get soft copy of pdf

AB1101 Accounting -> Its a basic accounting course. The lecture slides have all the required journal entries you need to know for exam. Be consistent with tutorials try to get Yeo Feng as tutor even better (besides Ai Ling). Edit: Now they change accounting...

AB1201 Financial Management -> Another basic course with unnecessary THICK textbook for "readings". Again, the thin lecture notes are sufficient and you are not missing anything if you dont buy textbook for readings

AB1301 Business Law -> Dont need to buy if you have concise cheatsheet, also known as Biz Law Bible (made by students) which has all case laws and main points from textbook. In exams you dont have time to flip thru book anyway.

AB1401 Information Technology -> Lecture notes has all the points. Also bulk of score in exam is in Entity Relationship Diagram (ERD) (need ownself practice a lot) and writing excel formula which is not in textbook.

AB1102 Accounting 2 -> Dont buy textbook for required readings. It is for US so some Journal Entries terms used are different from Sg. Instead buy NCKL book (also required for Accounting 3) which is made in Sg.

AB1202 statistics -> Needs textbook. Exam may be totally different than expected

AB1501 Marketing -> Lecture notes sufficient. If can get concise notes even better because it summarises 740 pages of textbook into 106 pages

AB1601 Organizational Behaviour -> In exam, no time to flip through text book. instead use cheatsheet to know different theory for each topic;

For year 2 Accountancy:

AC2301 Taxation book don't need to buy if you can get this prof and make your cheatsheet early
TasxKjPSvIH9bbOdl53w5l7H5OmW89YYm8ifu3mWXZ8
Just listen in class and you will be fine

ac2401 IT 2 Accounting Info Sys I don't think a textbook exists...
xJOjCC_Vq0v_oEW_fd0XSDfQbzVNyueZUWNgzBjkVL4

AB0602 Comm management strategies uses same book as AB0601

AC2101 Accounting 3 uses NCKL

ac2102 Managerial Accounting for decision making & Control change book every year... best if can find softcopy of text

AC2103 Risk. Book cost $27.50 brand new. But its the kind you only read once to get a rough understanding. Don't really need to buy. As for the bible, the most widespread one is EPIC risk notes, which is a misnomer. Its a good summary of COSO framework, and its missing a few risk topics which is required in exam. So my suggestion for this mod is get the bible and improve on it, and just keep doing PYP because the questions dont really change

AC3202 Company law has new version of textbook as at AY1516 S1. Source for bible..

None of the ES Green mods need textbook

-------------------------------------
Year 3 Accountancy

AC3101 Assurance and Auditing. You can read the book if you have too much time. However, the lecture slides provided are already a good summary. You should instead spend more time practicing pyp. In exam, you will see most people carrying thick stack of notes and the 500 pages textbook... but can they really refer quickly?

AC3102 Risk Reporting and Analysis (aka console). Everyone's favorite accounting module. Supplementary articles are not tested. There are 2 books. First book on consolidation is required. The derivative book required for second half is not necessary

AB3601 Strategic Management. Textbook is not necessary. If you want you can search for it. Business cases cost $17 for 4 sets from UPO. Cost to photocopy is $2
12486084_10207093767194937_9132868512491810236_o.jpg

AC3103 Biz Valuation and Analysis. There are 2 textbooks. Scott is 500 pages of theory, no need to buy because slides summarise the readings. Seminar questions refer to scotts book, but you can borrow from friend or wait for answers, nothing difficult.

PHP textbook should buy. Although latest is version 3, exam and slides based on version 2....

hmmm i have taken some of these mods before and...

AB0601: If cannot get e-book just borrow from the library.

AB1101: Textbook recommend for people without accounting background as it gives a more detailed explanation and there are many questions for practice.

AB1201: IMO one should at least read through the book (even though it is huge!) because some theory questions are based on the book that are not taught in lecture. Also sometimes the more difficult questions are based on the book itself. Students who are interested in B&F/actuarial science should buy the book.

AB1301: Compulsory (IMO) to get the book for your lecture and tutorials, as no "real" lecture notes will be provided. Instead lecture notes will just state which topic is covered. Also, some of the condensed law notes is not wholly accurate and have some minor errors, so it is good to have the textbook at hand to double check. Also you will have time to refer to your textbook in your exam, if you know exactly where to look but your notes doesn't tell you enough. Lastly get the 5th edition (yellow book) if you can. It is damn cheap ($10+) vs the more ex 6th edition book that only has very minor changes and cost $40+

AB1401: There are many versions of textbook available. Just read through once or twice and understand, don't really need to buy.

AB1501: Again, good for you to read through the case studies provided in the book. Exams will test how your apply the principles to a particular scenario, and so the book provides some example of that. But it is not critical to buy the book.
