Just received the letter stating that I have to report for VA assessment at Sembawang camp.

Contacted the recruitment officer and she said that I could opt out of the VA assessment if I wanted to due to my case.

Thing is, I'm overseas on internship and am weighing the pros and cons of coming back for the VA assessment.

I have some pertinent questions regarding the following matters:

1) What tests are in the updated VA assessments for NDU?
(Correct me if I'm wrong, but the prominent tests are the pressure test, psycho & medical test, and the physical test)

2) If I fail the pressure test, will I still stand a chance at entering NDU?

3) Is BMT in Tekong, or mono right now for NDU?

4) What is the OOC rate for NDU?

5) What are the chances of me getting into NDU should my medical be fine?

Cheers ^_^

1) Leave it to people who have been through it to share their experience.

2) People who have been through it might know better if they have been specifically told that it is a no go. However, if they aren't, then nobody here can conclusively say it is a yes or no cause we don't have access to the statistics.

3) NDU should still be mono intake.

4) Nobody can tell you conclusively here as I don't believe the statistics is a publicly available information.

was from there so u can trust what i say i guess

1) i orded 1-2 years ago so u can do the back dating urself.. during my time, most were health checks except for swim test (1m test) i dont know whats the point of this, but i didnt know how to swim and they took me in anyway.. another notable test is the hyperbaric test, basicallly testing if you are able to equalize (perform valsava)

2) i assume pressure test is the hyperbaric test, nope you will not stand a chance.. however, if youre able to take the plane and clear your ears, you probably will not have an issue

3) mono only, unless u sign on from tekong to ndu

4) went in as 200 , graduated as 60+ , injuries and volunteer opt out forms the bulk of it, contrary to believes, failing the physical tests causing u to OOC is the minority only..

5) not sure about this

Wow thats some passing rate. Could i know how many got injured and the most common forms of injury and whether its preventable?
I didnt know one could opt out sia, how many actually opt out tho? I heard theres some bell that u ring to give up or something like that
Also, how was your fitness and 2.4km timing like before u went in?

Sounds tougher than cdo. My time with cdo. 262 enlisted end up only 160 passed out as cdo.

during my time, back and ankle issues are the most common ones.
ankle issue very hard to prove so at most only downgrade to pes B if worst case.
back issue in most cases need MRI scan from any govt hospital just to be sure.
once MRI results is out any slight degeneration issue will be pes C status, just be careful of the land deploy code.

if you really make it to hell week, please don't ring the bell unless you really have injuries else you will make yourself look "weak" in the eyes of your platoon mates.
in NDU, only the fittest can lead the fit.
typically if you are from those dragon boat team or water polo team in poly or JC, chances are NDU will be a breeze, so the tough aspect will be the mental part process.

Thanks for the info! I was wondering if theres a sample workout routine u know that is close to what ndu does so that i can adapt mine to it?

haha that bell is a taboo, no one touches it, so dont bother about it.
Ppl usually get injured for not being at least 'fit', therefore could not catch up with ndu regimes, it is pretty extreme. I would say if youre putting in effort to train before enlistment, it will not happen.
My 2.4 before enlistment was already around 9mins, after being in there, i went to 8.23 was my fastest.. Theres no way u wont improve if u stick to their program. I had more issue with swimming, however with fins, its just brute strength and mental strength, could pass with simple technique mastery.
regarding opting out.. If one does not want to continue, simply fail the tests, you will easily be out.

yup youre right, im a dragonboater haha. I was trying to pull and cheer my boat along during hellweek..

Guys, go thru ndu and pass out and youll realize its a different bond youll foster.
I hear my friends from other vocations talking about how they manage to geng and all.
Then i think back from my experience, my batchmates talk about the times we get 'hammered' together. It may sound scary, but thinking back, its rly bitter sweet. Itll be worth it.

Simple conditioning will do honestly, leave the difficult stuffs to warrant officers to drill yall..
Make sure your body doesnt get a 'shock' from all the running youll do. Just go out there and clock mileage, abs and core workout.

Make sure you know how to stay confident in water as well before you enlist else youll be like me. Struggle throughout drownproofing hahaha. Bitter sweet memories..

-> SOF
-> Ranger
-> NDU
-> CDO
-> Reece
-> Guards
-> Infantry

Top will be the toughest. Then follow by bottom

A lot of ppl compare NDU and CDO. But to be honest, they are apple and orange.
Let the outsiders do the comparing.
As divers, stay humble. If anyone were to ask if its tougher than CDO, give them the benefit of doubt and tell them youre not sure, youve never been to their training. Keep this in mind.
No matter how tough your training is, theres always another out there that is tougher.

I wouldnt disagree that ranger is one of the toughest course out there..
