Need a new rig

Yo, with a budget of about 1k

I'm looking for a rig for some casual usage and gaming (not crazy about graphics eg. I don't expect to run every new game at maxed out graphic).

I mainly just play NBA 2K, GTA V and Dota 2. However it'll be nice if I could run some newer games, even if it's just medium graphic I'm fine with it.



Should I just go to PCThemes or something and tell them all these or do you guys have any recommendations?
Or like go to the aftershock website and click click.

Budget prolly 1k estimate, can go higher and of course it'll be the best if can go lower LOL.

My old rig was about 2k however it lasted like 6 years, would a rig of 1k be able to last that long? or

I'm a total 0 noob at DIY so I am not so sure if getting DIY anything goes wrong I can handle not.

Don't even need to diy. You pay 10$ they help you fix. Just give them a list of components you want, pay and wait a few hours. On the spot they test for you and ensure it works then you bring home. Not sure if they install windows for you though

Honestly if you ask me, top up all the way till you can get 5600x+b550m pro4 (add 200). Better and can last longer. 3600 isn't worth it anymore. Even better if you dare to buy 2nd hand gpu from people. Can get 2060 at 1660super price with warranty

Errr...1K budget, IMHO you can forget prebuilts.

AMD 3600 (or 3500X from Aliexpress if you are brave) - $175-250

Budget B450 MATX board from Amazon.sg - $100

Get some 16gb of some 2nd hand 3200Mhz RAM or look out for deals on Amazon, you can get some decent sticks. - $80.

Get a 1TB SATA SSD off Amazon if you aren't going to have a ton of games and stuff installed at the same time. - $125

Seasonic power supply (can get 2nd hand Focus since it has a 10 year warranty) or a S12 - $100-140

Get some cheapo Tecware or generic casing. $100

Use the rest of the budget to get as good a GPU that you can get. Maybe look out for people ditching their RTX2060 cards or something.

Aftershock rigs are not great...by the way how you define great?problem free? Often it is the user who anyhow download stuffs and causes software issues...

Go get from system integrator like aftershock or mansa so at least you know there is someone to call when rig is not working as it should since you mentioned you are total noob in pc hardware.

Yes you pay extra few hundreds as premium for warranty but I think it's worth it. Max i will pay is 200ish though for 3 years warranty.

Edit: go check out the ready to ship models at aftershock. Level 4 with r5 3600 and rtx 2060 model but price is 1285. You diy the same model might cost more.

Just go for your budget will do. Probably another 5 to 6 years time, board and processor roadmap will change again. Just go for wat suit u best.

I tik DIY system will suit ur budget more. Just get a nice RGB casing will do.

Yes, getting totally new parts will cost more of course. Prices for SSD, RAM is definitely cheaper on Amazon especially if each order doesn't exceed S$400. CPU sometimes also on sale there, I managed to get a 3600XT for $60 less than Sim Lim price.

The Aftershock price looks decent but you are paying extra for their service and stuff. The motherboard is the most basic rubbish type. RGB stuff is also rubbish (IMHO) if you are trying to maximise your price to performance.

Interesting! I'm using Win7 OEM-SLP which I think I could upgrade to Win10? By any chance do you know if I could transfer that?


So I bring the 2nd hand gpu along and get them to assemble?
Those GPU usually have like three years warranty right? I went to see there's those bought in april and reselling.


Is it wise to reuse any parts from my old rig? It's 6years++ old though. Or better to be safe and just get everything new.

Yeah that's one of the point I thought of getting from aftershock, else now like I'm suspecting it could be my PSU but I'm not confident in switching one myself.

Ahh true, however if I got them from amazon it'll be more inconvenient to like RMA or something right? or utilize the warranty if anything were to happen.

Dun be overly blinded by the prices that DIY can offer. You also need to equip yourself with the skills to build it yourself, and to troubleshoot as well. You can start to watch youtube videos on how to assemble a PC. Brands/models shown may be different but concept remains the same.
