Hello to everyone,

I need a new setup and I'm pretty much clueless of what to get.

Need input from you people.
Budget would be around $1K just for the CPU;

- No overclocking needed
- Not reusing old parts
- Play games like L4D and LoL
- Daily usage, youtube-ing

Need to build from scratch, everything needed except for kb and mouse.

Do recommend me a monitor to go with as well, this is not in my $1K budget.

Thank you all in advance! :D

1) List down all programs and games that you wish to use with your rig.

2) Got overclock?

3) Got old computers in your house? Want to reuse old parts in the new rig?

The rig can last you for years to come, no problem. Question is whether you can tahan the slowness in years to come. As for gaming, should you decide to play high end games, you will be dampered by the 750Ti's performance...

You can get 500-600w psu. More than enough.

I was stating in general. You may feel that i3 is slow after 2 yrs due to the new applications dat u use.

High end games like witcher 3, gta5, bf4/5, watchdogs, crysis 3/4, etc.

in the years to come, as apps get more complex/or u may want to run more demanding programs like photoshop, the system will definitely get slower cause an i3 is essentially a dual core processor.

gradually it will take longer time for u to multi task due to alot multi tasking.

i think u should overkill a bit now without the need to upgrade so many parts in the future.

For now an i5 intel processor would be the minimum requirement as it is quad core. you definitely won't need to upgrade this unless it die.

also get at least 250GB ssd. i think a 128 gb is definitely not enough.

i realise this would definitely be over yr budget, but it's best to spend a little more now than having to splurge on so many parts in future like buying faster processor, higher capacity ssd plus a better graphic card at one go.

So what do you guys recommend, based on the advice that you all have given. Maybe a rig setup to recommend me?

Just select any recommended build and add $100+ for a i5 4460. You can always save up for a better GPU in the future.

if u really dont mind playing at low settings all the time.. sure i3 is fine.. or if u dont game... and u just word or youtube.. its fine..
sure gaming is mostly on the gfx..maybe 70% but 30% is still up to the cpu...

yup just follow any recommended build and get i5 4460 for $100+ more.

also a samsung evo 250GB SSD or any brand equivalent for between $150-$170.

for best ssd prices locally, do check out the ssd subforum.

Refer to the spec I have posted earlier. Already includes an i5 and a GPU powerful enough to handle 1080p without AA :vijayadmin:

Btw, 128GB SSD is more than enough

I got another question, is it recommended to add an onboard wireless adaptor or stick to those dongle? Also, Nigel that you all recommended to assemble the rig. What's the charges like. Do PM Me if it's not convenient to state in here. Thanks!

Get a PCI-E wireless card instead of USB dongle for better internet performance. (DO NOT get the PCI wireless card, the Asrock H81-HDS does not have a PCI slot.)

Ok noted, what about the monitor. Should i go for Dell or AOC in your opinion?
