Need advice for current system build

Hi all, been using the this rig with the specs at the side >
Suddenly just unable to boot up successfully and got burnt smell.
Went to smell the source, seems to be coming from the mobo and not the psu.
The board is a Z77 Extreme 4 ASRock board. Is it time to do a complete overhaul and upgrade? IRC, the rig seems to be 3 years old.
If yes, can kindly advise whether intel is better or Ryzen?

My usage mainly, surf net, watch YouTube, movies playback and occasional gaming like hearthstone.

Intending to reuse my 2x Samsung SSD and my 1TB WD Blue.

Budget is 1k and above, can stretch depending on the recommendation

for your case if you're able to isolate the problem to be solely the motherboard, maybe you can try looking around carousell or the HWZ market for compatible motherboards? had the same problem as you earlier this year - decided to just upgrade to kaby-lake instead and when booting up, my gfx died on me as well.

Best to do a check of your psu if possible to be safe!

For mid-range build, Ryzen 1600 is preferred over the i5-7500 imo due to the 6 cores over 4 cores.

Parts can try to source from Lazada/Qoo10 probably can get cheaper.

Normally I would suggest for budget build just go for 2400MHz ValueRAM but higher RAM speed gives slight performance boost for Ryzen:

Using Ryzen 5 1600 currently, 6 cores 12 threads, stock fan, overclocked to 3.75GHz on all 6 cores. Max temps on load is 76/77deg, max temps on Prime95 stress test is 81 deg, all done in no AC room.

The Asrock AB350M Pro4 should be good enough for your usage and budget friendly too.

Gone is the era where AMD is a toaster. Welcome the new core count war competitor, bringing Intel back from their high heads in the sky for 10 years of dominance in CPU market, milking the consumer market and let us stuck with 4 cores for so long.

If you don't use 3200mhz ram or higher, current bios already stable for mid range build. I don't see it perform any worse than an i5 based on my day to day usage and in games.

No problem. No point for 1600x unless you straight buying an aftermarket cooler for it. I got the 1600 for the stock fan. Oc wise, both can get similar result. More on silicon lottery than being different model.

Was wondering if I should buy aftermarket cooler for the 1600 as I'm not really a fan of stock HSF, if I'm not ocing, the cpu should be fast enough for YouTube, multiple chrome surfing and stuff right? looking through the b350 boards, really got no idea which to pick, Read that among the boards, the gaming 3 is the best with the best audio chip but bad bios for oc cause they use offset voltage. ASRock is good because of some cooling while the msi tomahawk is not stable, anyone using any of these boards can feedback? Thanks!

I assure you, the Wraith Spire is top notch quality. Plus, not even noisy. Since you're not gonna oc, save your budget for something better in your rig. I built Asus Prime B350 Plus couple of times. Stable and good. Don't find any issue, oc pretty well, thermal is good too. Not sure why you dislike Asus.

Sorry bro, don't get me wrong as I'm used to ASRock for my current build, was wondering if it's better to get back ASRock! Of course open to other Brands also! Hahaha was thinking to do slight oc to get a little boost! Is it hard to oc on Ryzen?

For Ryzen build, have to install windows 10 creator update if Not will have freeze or BSOD?

The BSOD seems to be random. Not all are affected. I normally let my windows auto update. So far never see the BSOD. Updated to Creator Update as well.

Just built my ryzen r5 1600 yesterday with asrock ab350m pro 4. Oc-ed to 3.8ghz stable. No bsod yet(still running prime95 now).

Auto updated windows to latest so shouldnt have much to worry.
