Good day folks. I am a huge fan of the GTA series and would like to seek your kind advice on my current predicament. My current rig which have been serving me well for the past 7 years or so, is as listed below:

Intel C2D E8400 3GHZ
Gigabyte EP45-DS3
Kingston DDR2 PC6400/800 6GB
Palit GT640 DDR3 1GB
Western Digital SATA2 500GB & Hitachi SATA3 500GB
Creative SoundBlaster ZXR
Samsung 22x DVDRW SATA
Acbel 510W PSU
Windows 8.1 Pro
Coolermaster Centurion 5 Black

GTA V for PC is slated for April release and I am unsure whether my current rig is able run the game even at the lowest detail. I read about the new Intel Skylake processor which is slated for Q4 release and I wish to overhaul my entire system only then. So for now, can I just upgrade to a better GFX card in order to play the game at moderate to relatively high detail? Can my current rig support today's GFX card (e.g GTX 970)? And if it's possible, will my processor/ MB etc bottleneck its graphical performance?

Or would you recommend that I overhaul the entire system now and forget about SkyLake - I am not sure will there be any significant improvement over the current generation of processors? If say I have a budget of $1500, will you be kind enough to recommend me a decent rig? I am planning to use back the sound card only as I might be giving away this rig to the needy. The purposes of this rig are for gaming (FIFA, CS GO, Assassin Creed series, sleeping dog and upcoming GTA V), watching videos and internet surfing. And yes, I do a little of video/ photo editing at times as well.

Appreciate your kind advice and thank you all in advance. :)

Would really hope you drag till Skylake starts appearing down here. With that, you can have potentially faster performance, more advanced chipset features. At the same time, DDR3 RAM prices may continue to drop further down the months (as we are seeing the trend right now) which is still supported by Skylake. R9-300 series may also appear by then (meaning cheaper current cards). And most importantly, guaranteed upgrade path to 10nm Cannonlake in the far future. Come back in Q4 in time to build a Christmas rig! :flash:

Thanks bro! Looks like there will be drastic improvement in the SkyLake.

Until SkyLake launches, do you think my current rig is able to play GTA V at the lowest detail?

Maybe try changing gpu first to a 970? Wait for lazada $100 off discount sale to happen again.

Also, ur cpu will bottleneck the game, but if its in low settings den matbe nt.. at least next time u upgrade, no need get new gpu.
