I bought and build my pc a number of months before but I realised i need to change the heat sink fan.

The PC runs ok with no sound or high temperatures when im using 3D softwares, whereas for games, temperatures can go up to 80 degree celsius this is regarding just the CPU.

Specs:
i7-4790
Palit GTX 960 2gb
Toshiba 1TB HDD
8 Gb ram
FSP Hexacore plus 550W PSU

Idle GPU temperature is around 45-48C which i feel is realtively ok compared to my CPU.

My CPU idle temp is 42-48C and max idle is 60C , when playing games it reaches around 60+ with max at 80+. My computer thus sounds like its churning all its energy to do the task.

I seek advice on what HSF to buy, this is my first custom build pc so im not sure abt a number of things especially aftermarket cpu cooler. Any comments abt the temperatures would be greatly appreciated.

If u don't mind waiting can also consider China air cooled from aliexpress. For less than $20 u can get one with 4 heatpipes. My i7 dropped from 85 load to 60

The xigmatek dark night II is a good one. Im referring to the new n imrproved dark night II, not the dark night. Airflow is high at 90 cfm while noise decibels is low enough. Can Be found for $59 at cybermind. Noise levels r lower than high end CM v4 V6 GTS etc fancy models n load temp is similiar. Just make sure your casing can take 154mm height for the xigmatek dark night ii. Go to coolermaster website go to the casing cateogory find your casing n look at the max cpu cooler mm limit. It should be 160mm. Xigmatek dark night ii has led I think. If u dont need led, video pro is now selling the discontinued xigmatek Prime. Excellent cooler n heat sink. No LED but very quiet w high air flow. Cost only $69. If u intend to do oc check the airflow of the cpu coolers. Get one around 90 cfm. Any thing less will limit your oc potential.

been quite some time i responded to this thread sorry.. been busy wif school assignments in terms of 3D in which my computer has problems wif.

I did numerous test of sorts and the problem is the CPU, the thermal paste is not evenly spread out with some of the paste stuck at the edges(most of it).

so basically i think i just need thermal paste. where can i find thermal paste?

Still not 100 sure of the new heat sink fan, my dad asked me a lot of questions i could not answer with regards to new fan, things like power and size. I also don't want to spend too much on the hsf, i also do not overclock the system or anything.
