Hi bros and sis, I need advice on building a high-spec gaming PC. Needs to be able to play the recent games (BF4 and newer) at high-settings comfortably (ultra-setting not a must). Not intending to OC. I'm salvaging some parts from my previous PC as listed at the bottom.

Budget max $1500. Please also state the shop to buy from. Thanks for helping :)

Parts required:
  • SSD
  • 5.1 sound card with optical TOSLINK
  • 3.5" HDD docking station

Optional:
Case (I can salvage my ATX case to save costs if needed)

Parts not required:
  • Monitor
  • Keyboard & Mouse
  • Speakers
  • ODD
  • WiFi adapter
  • Internal HDD
  • Windows OS

You do not need a sound card if you are using the TOSLINK to other audio equipments. The sound card will deemed as useless as it is just moving your sound to the sound card and let the audio source do the processing. This is call bypass.

MSI B85M G43 + i5-4570 ~ $347
Gskills Ripjaws 1600mhz 2x4gb kit Blue ~ $110
No HDD
Crucial m500 240gb ~ SGD$169 (Amazon)
MSI R9 280X 3gb Twin Frozr ~ $469
Seasonic G650 650w 80+ Gold Modular PSU ~ $135
Reuse Chassis
No ODD
No OS
Rosewill 2.5inch/3.5inch USB 2.0 HDD Docking Station ~ SGD$39 (Amazon have it for a couple of years and is nice to use but in the end go for hot swap bays internal)

Total ~ $1061 + $20 (none full rig pricing) ~ $1081. Buy at tradepac. DIY

Thanks for the build, but is there a more convenient alternative to ordering the SSD and docking station from Amazon? I'd like to buy everything in one swoop. :spin:

I found 6 audio jacks only. No TOSLink optical cable output like the one I found in back of my xbox360 though.

Oops, sorry, just realize that I bought B85-G43, not B85M-G43.
Funny, how MSI advertise Gaming version has better Sound output but they didn't include TOSLink output. :(

Well for SSD anything equals to 240gb or higher local market is expensive. Not unless you do not mind Kingston V300 which convergent have promo for IT Fair (which is over) at $199.

But the performance is not as good as the Crucial m500.

Its your choice. Local m500 at $215
Amazon $169 ~ $46 savings

Docking station can get local if you want. Try Cybermind i think they have a few brands. Can go take a look.
