Hi all, need some advice regarding insurance for myself and family.

I have the NTUC Enhanced Incomeshield Basic + some company hospitalisation benefit.

My wife has the NTUC Enhanced Incomeshield Basic + Assist Rider

My baby needs coverage - currently no insurance. When he was born at KK the hospital gave me a form for hospitalisation cover with NTUC, but I called NTUC and they say not aware.

Anyway, I need to get him something asap.

Also looking at Personal Accident Insurance. I hear TMC is good.

Anyone can comment on how I should move forward?

Babies who are Singapore citizens/PR are automatically covered under Medishield, unless you opt out. So I don't think you need to rush into anything, take your time to consider whether you need extra coverage.

Both my wife and I are PRs, and we have applied for baby as well. For the time being he is on a social visit pass until the application outcome.

Usual processing time is around 8 months for babies. So I'm wondering if Medishield will cover for this period.

Secondly, I'm guessing that there will be many outpatient visits during this period. As a foreigner, doctor consultation fees etc. will be quite heavy - $140 I think for Paediatrician. I want to try mitigating these costs.

I'm afraid I have no idea whether the baby will be covered during the PR application period. Isn't it just a formality given both parents are PR?

I did not get any plans that cover outpatient treatment for my baby (currently 5 mths old). Outpatient treatment may not be cheap but it's not catastrophic either.. self-insuring is probably more economical.

I don't believe your baby will be covered with medshield if he is only on social visit pass. You might consider applying for dependent pass for your baby in the meantime. With that, can apply for our medisave-integrated shield plans.

For outpatient visits, buying such plans for an individual can be very costly. Not ideal... Better to just pay for each visit.

The dependent pass is only if I am an E pass holder. But I am a PR so not eligible.

I was thinking that for the interim I can apply for a travel insurance for him. Travel insurance is like a PA so maybe outpatient visits due to accident will also be covered.

Once his PR comes through (fingers crossed) then his medishield should kick in.

Can anyone recommend good travel insurance annual plan? I'm looking at directasia.com. Seems good and cheap.
