TS. Do make an appt with CPF to find out the details of the options available. All this discussion is just theory. CPF will be able to tell you how much your FIL has, how much that translates into for CPF Life, whether or not you can request for him to withdraw less under RSS over a longer period.

Why make your decisions based on the advice of people you don't know? Go consult the people with the proper info.

From CPF website:

For recipients who are participating in the Retirement Sum Scheme, top-ups will increase the monthly payouts and/or extend payout duration.

My further comments:

Fyi, amp is a term coined by CPFB to refer to payouts from RA for CPF Life members so as to differentiate the payout coming from CPF Life participation.

RSS members only receive revised mthy payouts and/or extend payout duration.

ok you are right

Then drop them an email and get it in writing. At least you can follow up if it is wrong.
If the advice given here is wrong, what is he going to do? Chase HWZ?

you are right. hwz is a better place to find info. at least if someone posted wrongly, the vigilante will come in and whack the faker. if you get a blur king to serve you at cpf, there is no one to scold blur king when she mess up

i will u 2 examples of the mess cpf is

fren went to cpf to pay back for home loan withdrawal. fren is unemployed. he wants the money to be in oa. his oa is almost gone because of monthly withdrawal for housing loan. cpf osifer did a vc for him. this money is for his loan, not for him when he is 55 or 65 or see doc.

fren2 went to cpf to do a vc for unemployed wife. cpf say wife already at frs, cannot vc.

the thing is this get the correct info from hwz. go down to cpf to ensure the correct process is done. if you are served by blur king, insist on the correct process that you want. call the manager if necessary.

Sure. By all means everyone should do their own due diligence. Check the websites, talk to knowledgeable people you know, talk to the organisation in question.

And yes, MM can be one means to get info. But frankly, I always find it strange that people are willing to risk their money based on the advice from a stranger off the internet. I hope all of us do our own due diligence even after getting the advice.

It would be good if MM stuck to factual advice, but sometimes, the arguments degenerate into noise. I would just state my peace and let people choose, but clearly some people feel that it is very important that everyone in a public forum thinks they are right.

I suggest you quit the forum if you cannot accept diversity of views.

Add value, not noise

Blame yourself if u rely/trust a forumer's opinion without doing your own due diligence.

Blame yoursef if u rely on fake news without doing your own due diligence.

Flame those who spread fake news or endorse fake news

If your money is at stake, always seek final clarifications with the authorities.

Read this other thread below, where someone post a fake news, and one forumer after another forumer continue to endorse or spread the fake news. I am going to stop it!

Is age at death data publicly available for each year ? If not, I don't see good reason why this data (like all other data) is not available.

My speculation of the change (to 90) is the kiasu and kiasi bureaucrats revising it lower to 90 realising they've been way ahead of themselves by extrapolating historical lifespan data. Of course, current crop of old folks (and family) complaining not able to access their money when still alive.

Why? CPFB changed the RSS payout to last till 90 instead of 95 in 2020, those whose payout are higher than the revised payout (to last till 90) will not be changed automatically in Jan 2020.

I let the "statisticians" here answer your questions. I dun rely or refer to any statistics to make my decisions.

I have been following this RSS members complains late last year, they want higher payout, so govt decided to please them by reducing the age from 95 to 90 to increase their mthly payout. It makes sense cos those under CPF Life is based on 90, better to standardise and simplify to avoid more confusion as CPF rules are already confusing and difficult to understand.

Especially those "loopholes" CPFB created to benefit those in the know only and the rich only, where is the Equality of treatment?

if you are here long enuf, and you have dealt with the monkeys at cpf, you will realize it is much better you seek advice here. at mm, there are checks and balances. at cpf there is not.

you saw how fast maple came in and correct my mistake about extending the payout cpf payout?

if it is an opinion, there is never right or wrong decision.

if it is a fact, there are right.

Spot on, give u a like!

There are checks and balances only when there are people willing to share the facts (CPF rules/policies) and not opinion/theory!

Do u think there will be checks and balances in there (P) if there is conflict of interests? :s13:

Or post in the "propriety threads" if u do not want these checks and balances :s13:

Quoting you earlier to segue the lifespan topic - my bad for not addressing the data availability question to all.

Below again segue your point, not specifically replying to you...

Every one has an opinion - and they should all be entitled to one. Where policy is concerned, it should not be based on the opinions of some, but what the data says objectively, and again not the interpretation of some. As for interpretation of lifespan data, it should be straight forward.

ICA has detailed data of each and every one who's in Singapore (regardless of citizenship), dead or alive. This should be made available all the time (rather than selectively) for us to slice and dice, how many lived till what age, etc...

Like I said, if people want to rely on the checks and balances of anonymous people on a public forum, that's really up to them. :s22:

I'm quite sure it is available. Try SingStat.

I would suggest we keep to the topic. Lest this forum begins to sound like a primary school playground.
